We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer who can take ownership of electrical design, technical coordination and project delivery. You will work closely with clients, project managers, architects, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop solutions that meet technical, commercial and regulatory requirements.
This role is suited to an experienced electrical engineer who can manage complex design activities, review technical documentation and support projects from initial concept through installation, testing and handover. You will also provide technical guidance to junior engineers and help maintain consistent engineering standards across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical System Design: Develop electrical designs for power distribution, lighting, emergency systems, containment, earthing and associated building services.
- Technical Calculations: Complete load assessments, cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, fault level studies and equipment selection.
- Design Documentation: Prepare and review drawings, specifications, schedules, technical reports and design calculations.
- Project Coordination: Coordinate electrical engineering activities with mechanical, civil, structural and architectural teams.
- Technical Reviews: Review contractor submissions, equipment proposals, material specifications and shop drawings for compliance.
- Site Inspections: Attend project sites to inspect electrical installations, assess progress and identify technical concerns.
- Compliance: Ensure that designs and installations comply with applicable UK regulations, industry standards and project requirements.
- Testing and Commissioning: Support testing, commissioning, defect resolution and final handover activities.
- Client Consultation: Discuss project requirements, technical options and engineering recommendations with clients and stakeholders.
- Risk Management: Identify design, safety and delivery risks and recommend appropriate technical controls.
- Project Reporting: Prepare progress updates, technical reports, design reviews and project documentation.
- Team Support: Mentor graduate and junior engineers and provide constructive feedback on technical work.
- Continuous Improvement: Help improve engineering procedures, calculation templates, quality controls and design standards.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: At least 6 years of electrical engineering experience within building services, construction, infrastructure, industrial or energy projects.
- Education: Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical distribution, lighting, emergency systems, earthing and building services design.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Practical knowledge of UK electrical regulations, British Standards and relevant health and safety requirements.
- Design Skills: Ability to prepare and review electrical calculations, technical specifications, drawings and equipment schedules.
- Project Experience: Experience supporting projects through design, construction, testing, commissioning and handover.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, electrical design software and Microsoft Office. Experience with Revit or building information modelling systems is an advantage.
- Problem Solving: Ability to investigate technical issues, assess available options and recommend practical solutions.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
- Leadership: Ability to guide junior engineers, review technical work and coordinate activities across multiple projects.
- Organisation: Ability to manage competing deadlines, technical submissions and project priorities.
- Professional Registration: Chartered Engineer status or progress toward professional registration with the IET or another recognised engineering institution is an advantage.
Pay: £50,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
