The Malden Centre Adult Education Department welcomes applications for a Head of Pottery, starting in September 2026.
Our pottery classes run Monday to Friday, with some Saturday sessions. Classes operate during school terms, with additional workshops and sessions offered during the holidays.
This is a 10-hour-per-week role, with the opportunity to teach a 2.5-hour pottery class on Tuesday evenings.
You will be responsible for the Pottery Studio, working alongside our Technician to ensure the studio is safe, organised and well maintained. You will also support the pottery programme, lead the pottery instructor Team and cover classes when required.
You will report to the Activities Manager.
More about you
You will be a qualified and experienced pottery or ceramics practitioner with a strong knowledge of pottery studio practices, equipment, materials, glazes and kiln processes.
You will be confident supporting learners with different levels of experience and able to cover and deliver engaging pottery classes when required. Previous teaching experience, particularly within an adult education, community or leisure setting, would be highly desirable.
You will be organised, responsible and able to work effectively alongside our Pottery Technician, instructors and Adult Education team. You will have a strong understanding of health and safety requirements within a pottery studio and be committed to maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment.
New Malden has a large and vibrant Korean community. The ability to speak Korean would be an advantage for this position, but it is not essential.
Professionalism, creativity, punctuality, reliability, commitment and excellent communication and organisational skills are indispensable attributes for this role.
