SEND Teaching Assistant – Immediate Start - London Borough of Lewisham

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in the London Borough of Lewisham. This is a full-time role, working 5 days per week, supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with SEND experience who are passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of children with complex learning and physical needs.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and therapists to support pupils both on a 1:1 basis and within small class groups. You will help students access learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals within a supportive and well-resourced environment.
The school supports pupils with:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
- Complex Needs
- Physical Disabilities
- Wheelchair Users
Class sizes are small, typically up to 6 pupils, with a SEND Teacher and multiple Teaching Assistants in each classroom, ensuring a high level of support for both staff and students.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support throughout the school day
- Assist pupils with their learning, communication, and social development
- Support students with sensory and physical needs
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff
- Encourage independence and engagement in learning activities
- Support with personal care when required
Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND
- Experience working with ASD, PMLD, complex needs, or physical disabilities is highly desirable
- A patient, caring, and proactive attitude
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Comfortable providing personal care when required
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
