Job Title: Facilities Assistant
Location: Penny Tree School, Birmingham, B30 3ES
Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday | 8.00am – 4.00pm
Salary: £27,560 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | 52 Weeks
Start: November 2026

At Penny Tree School, we're looking for a proactive Facilities Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team. This is more than a maintenance role—it's an opportunity to play an important part in creating a safe, welcoming and inspiring environment where children and young people can learn, grow and achieve their full potential.
No two days are the same. From carrying out repairs and maintaining our school buildings and grounds to supporting health and safety and improving our learning environment, you'll be a valued member of our school community whose work has a direct impact every single day.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance, repairs and general site improvements.
- Help maintain the school buildings, grounds and equipment to a high standard.
- Complete routine inspections and identify maintenance or health and safety issues.
- Support refurbishment projects, decorating and general upkeep of the school environment.
- Work alongside contractors and suppliers, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Carry out fire safety checks, emergency procedures and basic compliance inspections.
- Ensure tools, equipment and materials are stored and used safely in line with Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and assist with risk assessments where required.
- Provide flexible support across the school, responding promptly to maintenance requests and helping ensure the site always looks its best.
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience in general maintenance, facilities or site support.
- Has practical skills in areas such as plumbing, joinery, decorating, painting or general repairs.
- Has a good understanding of Health & Safety and safe working practices.
- Is organised, reliable and able to prioritise a varied workload.
- Takes pride in delivering high standards and maintaining a safe, welcoming environment.
- Works well independently and as part of a team.
- Has good communication and basic IT skills.
- Holds a full UK Driving Licence.
- Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
