Café Chef / Head Cook – Shanahans Café (Aston, Birmingham)

Our menu focuses on freshly prepared breakfasts, lunches, sandwiches, and light meals, with a strong emphasis on flavour, presentation, and quality ingredients.
We are currently looking for an experienced Café Chef / Head Cook to join our kitchen team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about food, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is eager to contribute to the growth of the business.
Role Overview
As a key member of the kitchen, you will be responsible for preparing and presenting a wide variety of breakfast and lunch dishes to a consistently high standard. You will play an important role in the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring quality, efficiency, and cleanliness at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook breakfast and lunch dishes to a high standard
- Ensure excellent presentation and attention to detail on every plate
- Manage multiple orders efficiently during busy service periods
- Complete daily food preparation and ensure kitchen readiness
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and allergen procedures
- Assist with stock control, rotation, ordering, and deliveries
- Maintain accurate kitchen records and daily checklists
- Keep the kitchen clean, organised, and fully compliant
- Work closely with colleagues and management to ensure smooth service
- Contribute ideas for menu improvements and seasonal specials
Requirements
- Previous experience in a professional kitchen
- Strong understanding of food hygiene, safety, and allergen management
- Knowledge of stock control and kitchen organisation
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail
- Reliable, punctual, and hardworking
- Ability to work independently when required
Job Details
- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Contract: Full-time, permanent
- Pay: £14–£15 per hour
- Weekend availability required
