The Technical Services Team provides strategic and specific advice to local planning authorities, lead local flood authorities and Anglian Water to ensure appropriate controls are in place to effectively manage water in the catchment; administers planning and consent applications within the district, taking account of the impact of proposed development and works on system capacity and conveyance, maintenance operations, asset durability, navigation and the natural environment. The team also plans and delivers a forward-thinking capital works programme for strategic and tactical navigation and flood risk management asset projects both in-house and using external suppliers.
As a Planning & Consenting Engineer you play a key role within the Technical Services Department regulating third-party activities on our system to ensure the continued, efficient operation of our vital Middle Level and Internal Drainage Board water management infrastructure.
You will assess and provide appropriate responses to consent applications, providing technical drainage advice/solutions within agreed timescales to ensure eventual development is of a high standard of design in respect of land drainage; planned works on and adjacent to watercourses within the catchment are designed appropriately, are sustainable, and do not adversely impact flow within watercourses or our maintenance and management operations.
You will also assist with the assessment of and response to more complex, major development planning applications.
Collaborative working with our internal teams and our administered Internal Drainage Boards is an essential part of this role.
You will also work collaboratively with other organisations as needed, including lead local flood authorities, local planning authorities and other risk management authorities, to ensure a collective and consistent approach to enabling development through appropriate water management solutions within the catchment.

Pay: £35,298.00-£50,145.00 per year
