Brook Infant School and Nursery
We are a two-form entry Infant School with a private Nursery attached. We also provide a Breakfast and Afterschool club to the school and local schools. Located in Maidenbower the school is in a modern building that opened in 1999. We have access to a Woodlands where we can teacher forest schools to all the children.
Life at Brook Infant School and Nursery is fun and filled with love, laughter and learning. We believe that our school is a special place for our children, families and staff. We provide a creative and purposeful curriculum that draws on children’s interests, provides them with key skills for life-long learning and enables them to become effective future citizens in this ever evolving 21st century.

Teaching Assistant (Fixed Term contracts to 21 July 2027)
Grade 3 - Term Time only, starting September 2026
We are looking for passionate and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant. All our Teaching Assistants support all pupils including those with SEND. This post will include time one to one with SEND children. Ideally applicants will have experience of working with children.
The post is for 28 hours and 20 minutes per week, term time only, grade 3, point 3 to 4, (£24,796 to £25,185 pro rata and equates to £12.85 to £13.05 per hour) plus Crawley Weighting (pay award pending). The hours of work are from 08.20 to 12:00 and 13:00 and 15:00 every day, term time only. In addition, there will be one to one lunch cover for 30 minutes during lunchtime. This would bring the post up to 30.85 hours with a 30 mins unpaid lunch. This additional 30 mins is subject to Pupil need.
This post is contracted to July 2027 with the possibility of continuing into the next academic year depending on pupil numbers.

What You Need to Succeed
TEACHING ASSISTANT
Knowledge and Understanding
- Basic knowledge and understanding of managing children.
- Good literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.
- A clear DBS check.
- A strong understanding of additional needs.
- Experience of supporting an individual child or groups of children.

- An ability to listen to and follow instructions and advice from the class teacher/Inclusion Manager or outside professional.
- Flexibility and ability to work from own initiative.
- Patience, sensitivity and understanding.
- Appropriate confidentiality.
- Willingness to learn and develop own practice.
- Responds intuitively to needs.
- A calm and caring attitude.
- Support the school ethos.
- Manage time effectively to ensure tasks are carried out within a given time frame.
- Experience of matching learning to a child’s needs.
Specific Skills
- Builds a caring and supportive relationship with the children which demonstrates respect, trust and patience.
- Good communication skills both written and verbal.
- Follow individual learning plans.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date records and assessments.
- Communicate observations and feedback to the teacher.
- Communicate effectively with the other support assistants and other members of the team.
- Establish a supportive relationship with the parents.
- Manage children with specific needs who may demonstrate difficult behaviour.
- To be able to use own initiative to develop resources in order to support individuals and small groups of children.
- To assist the class teacher/Inclusion Manager where necessary in the development of an ILP by sharing observations of the children.
- Liaise and communicate with parents effectively and appropriately where agreed.
- Good interpersonal skills with adults as well as children.
- Assist the teacher in creating a positive learning environment.
- Display work effectively.
