Your chair. Your clients. Total creative freedom.
Liverpool Street
£12.71/hour + commission (average total £39,037–£41,680/year)
We're looking for the stylist clients ask for by name. The one who can read a head of hair in five minutes flat, and turn “not sure, surprise me” into someone's new favourite look.
If that's you, keep reading.
Who we are
We're SCL, and we. love. your. hair. We love making it glossy, fresh, dimensional: every shade from inky dark to sun-struck blonde. We do it across three London salons, a stylist co-working space, and a pro-level haircare range. All independent. All women-owned. All built on the belief that hair should feel great: fun, indulgent, never intimidating.
We're looking for a Senior Hair Colourist & Stylist to join our Liverpool Street team and bring serious skill, warmth and creative flair to every chair they sit in.
The role
This is a genuine craft role. You'll consult, colour, cut and style to a genuinely high standard, building the kind of client relationships that turn a one-off appointment into a standing monthly booking. You'll also help set the tone on the floor: supporting newer stylists, sharing what you know, and keeping the energy exactly where SCL likes it. Fun, indulgent, never intimidating.
What you'll actually be doing
Behind the chair
- Run in-depth consultations, and actually listen to what a client wants, not just what they say first.
- Deliver expert colour, cut and styling that's wearable, individual and genuinely them.
- Give honest, personalised advice on hair care and styling. We empower, we don't just sell.
- Build the kind of relationships that turn first-timers into regulars.
On the floor
- Bring a genuinely welcoming, inclusive energy to every appointment.
- Support newer stylists and apprentices, and help set the tone for the whole team.
- Stay current: attend training and development sessions, and bring new techniques back to the floor.
- Follow health and safety properly, every time.
Pay, in plain English
This one's a hybrid, not a flat salary, so here's exactly how it breaks down. You're on an hourly rate of £12.71, and across a typical 40 to 44 hour week that's roughly £26,437 to £29,080 a year before commission. On top of that, you keep the revenue behind your own chair, and our stylists currently average around £1,050 a month in commission, which works out to about £12,600 a year. Put together, realistic total earnings land around £39,037 to £41,680 a year, depending on your hours and what you achieve on commission.
What you bring
- Significant experience as a colourist and stylist, ideally in a salon environment.
- A strong portfolio that shows real skill and creativity, not just trend-following.
- Warm, genuine customer service. Clients should leave feeling like the best version of themselves.
- A team mindset. You contribute to a positive, supportive culture, not just your own book.
- Flexible availability to meet the salon's and our clients' needs, including weekends.
- A pre-established clientele is a bonus, but it's not required. We're looking for the right fit, not just a full book.
As one of London's few major women-owned salon groups, we take real pride in building a team culture rooted in empowerment, inclusivity and genuine career progression, not just for our guests, but for everyone on our team too.
Ready?
We don't just do hair, we create joy, confidence and community. As Senior Hair Colourist & Stylist, you're right behind the chair where it happens. Apply now with your CV and a cover letter, and let's build something brilliant together.
