Shearwell Data Ltd is seeking an experienced and customer-focussed Agricultural Technology Specialist to serve as the subject matter expert for our farm management solutions.
Job Summary
Working closely with the sales team, customers, and industry stakeholders, this role will provide technical expertise throughout the customer journey, helping farms, agricultural businesses, and partners understand how our farm management solutions can improve efficiency, compliance, data management, data insights and decision-making.
The successful candidate will act as the technical authority during the sales process, delivering demonstrations, providing consultative guidance, and helping customers identify the most appropriate solution for their business. While supporting revenue growth, the primary focus of the role is technical consultancy, customer engagement, and solution expertise rather than direct sales prospecting.
The role is full time and is office based at our Head Office near Minehead in West Somerset. Please note that applications to work remotely for this role will not be considered.

Shearwell Data is located at modern premises in Wheddon Cross on the edge of Exmoor, approx 10 miles from Minehead in West Somerset. We are a family run business which has been at the forefront of providing the farming industry with livestock identification products for over 30 years and we are the leading supplier of sheep tags in the UK. We employ over 120 staff, most of whom work at our premises in Wheddon Cross.
Key Responsibilities of the Agricultural Technology Specialist role
- Act as the subject matter expert for the company's farm management solution products and associated technologies.
- Support the sales team by providing technical expertise throughout the customer evaluation and purchasing process.
- Engage with farmers, agricultural businesses, distributors, and industry stakeholders to understand operational requirements and business challenges.
- Deliver compelling software demonstrations tailored to customer needs and farm operations.
- Explain product functionality, workflows, integrations, reporting capabilities, and business benefits to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide consultative recommendations that align software solutions with customer objectives.
- Assist customers in understanding how software can improve herd management, livestock traceability, compliance, productivity, and business performance.
- Address technical questions and provide expert guidance throughout the decision-making process.
- Support the preparation of quotations, proposals, and solution recommendations.
- Attend agricultural shows, conferences, exhibitions, and customer meetings as the company's software specialist.
- Collaborate with Product, Support, Training, and Development teams to ensure customer feedback and market requirements are communicated effectively.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, competitor products, emerging technologies, and changes within the agricultural sector.
Required qualifications and experience
- Experience in a software specialist, pre-sales, product specialist, customer success, technical support, or agricultural technology role.
- Strong understanding of farm management software, livestock management systems, or agricultural technology solutions.
- Ability to understand farming operations and translate business requirements into practical software solutions.
- Excellent presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence delivering software demonstrations to groups and individual customers.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and CRM systems.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
Preferred knowledge and skills
- Experience working within the livestock, dairy, beef, sheep, or wider agricultural sectors.
- Practical understanding of farm data management and compliance requirements.
- Experience delivering software implementation support, training, or customer onboarding.
- Ability to build credibility with farmers and agricultural professionals through practical industry knowledge.
- Familiarity with farm software integrations, mobile applications, cloud-based platforms, and data reporting tools.
- Strong customer-service mindset with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
What's on Offer?
We offer 25 days of holiday each year plus standard Bank Holidays.
Working hours are generally from 8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday , 40 hours per week, with one hour for lunch (which is unpaid) but some flexibility may be available on working hours.
In addition to the salary offered is the opportunity to earn commission and we offer a Workplace Pension plus an on site staff gym which is free to use for staff.
