About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Solar PV Service, Commissioning & Quality Engineer to join our growing renewable energy team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the commissioning, inspection, testing, maintenance and quality assurance of commercial and industrial Solar PV installations. This is a varied role that combines technical expertise with a strong focus on quality, compliance and customer satisfaction.
You will play a key role in ensuring our projects are delivered to the highest standards, operate efficiently, and comply with all relevant regulations and industry requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning
- Commission Solar PV systems ranging from small commercial installations to large-scale rooftop and ground-mounted projects.
- Complete system testing and verification.
- Carry out inverter configuration, monitoring setup and performance validation.
- Produce commissioning documentation and handover packs.
Service & Maintenance
- Undertake planned preventative maintenance (PPM) visits.
- Respond to reactive maintenance calls and fault-finding activities.
- Diagnose and rectify system faults including PV arrays, inverters, AC/DC systems and monitoring platforms.
- Produce detailed service reports and recommendations.
Quality Assurance & Inspections
- Inspect installations to ensure compliance with project specifications, BS 7671, MCS requirements and relevant industry standards.
- Identify installation defects and monitor corrective actions.
- Conduct snagging inspections and quality audits.
- Support project teams in achieving right-first-time installations.
Technical Support
- Provide technical guidance to installation teams.
- Assist with design reviews and constructability assessments.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
- Liaise professionally with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Electrician with recognised electrical qualifications.
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Inspection and Testing qualification (2391, 2394/2395 or equivalent).
- Experience commissioning and fault-finding Solar PV systems.
- Strong understanding of BS 7671.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Desirable Requirements
- MCS accreditation experience.
- EV charging installation experience.
- Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) experience.
- Renewable energy sector experience.
- Experience with commercial and industrial solar installations.
- IPAF and PASMA qualifications.
- Health & Safety qualifications such as SMSTS or SSSTS.
