Reporting to: Installation Project Manager
At SHJ we are looking for enthusiastic and skilled Installation Engineer to join our growing team, installing and commissioning medical gas pipeline systems across hospitals, healthcare facilities and laboratories throughout the North of England.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pipework installation engineer or someone from a related mechanical engineering background looking to develop specialist skills within the medical gas industry. Full training will be provided for candidates with the right attitude and transferable experience.
Working on projects where quality, safety and attention to detail are essential, you will play a key role in delivering installations that support patient care in some of the UK's most important healthcare environments.
The Role
As an Installation Engineer, you will be responsible for the complete installation, testing and commissioning of medical gas pipeline systems to the highest industry standards, including compliance with HTM 02-01.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing project documentation, quotations and site information before work begins.
- Carrying out pre-installation site surveys and assessing project requirements.
- Planning installation activities and organising job-specific materials.
- Installing medical gas pipeline systems (first and second fix).
- Testing, commissioning and certifying completed installations.
- Supervising subcontractors or junior engineers where required.
- Liaising professionally with clients, site managers and main contractors.
- Completing all project documentation accurately and on time.
- Maintaining company tools, equipment, van stock and consumables.
- Ensuring sites remain clean, safe and compliant throughout the project.
- Following all company Health & Safety procedures and reporting any incidents promptly.
About You
We're looking for someone who enjoys hands-on engineering, takes pride in producing high-quality work and is committed to delivering excellent customer service.
You will ideally have:
- Previous installation experience within a quality-focused mechanical engineering environment.
- A relevant NVQ Level 2 (or above) or equivalent qualification.
- A full UK manual driving licence.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
- High standards of workmanship and attention to detail.
