Overview
Wyreside Estate is an exciting new wedding destination currently being developed in the heart of the Lancashire countryside. Set within approximately 100 acres of woodland, parkland, river frontage and historic grounds, the estate is entering a significant period of restoration and investment ahead of opening for weddings in 2028.
Our ambition is simple: to create one of the finest countryside wedding estates in the North West. We want guests to arrive and feel as though the estate has always looked the way it does - mature, natural, beautifully cared for and effortlessly elegant.
The landscape is central to that vision.
This role offers a rare opportunity to become part of the estate before it opens. Rather than inheriting a finished landscape, you will play a leading role in creating it. From opening up woodland views and restoring forgotten corners of the estate to creating beautiful walks and managing habitats, your work will leave a lasting mark on Wyreside for many years to come.
The Role
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in improving the places around them.
This isn't simply a grounds maintenance role, nor is it solely focused on forestry. It is a varied, hands-on position that combines woodland management, countryside skills, practical estate maintenance and long-term planning.
Initially, much of your time will be spent identifying priorities across the estate and working through them methodically. Some areas require tree safety works, others need invasive species removed or woodland managed to allow healthier growth. Elsewhere, paths need creating, views opened up, drainage improved and forgotten spaces brought back to life.
You'll have the freedom to organise your workload, prioritise projects and take ownership of the estate's continual improvement. Working alongside an Estate Operative and specialist contractors where required, you'll help transform the landscape into something truly exceptional.
As the estate develops, the role will naturally evolve into balancing ongoing maintenance with continual enhancement, ensuring every part of the grounds reflects the quality of the venue itself.
What You'll Be Doing
No two days will be the same.
Some days may involve woodland thinning, clearing storm damage or felling dangerous trees. Others could see you creating new footpaths, restoring fencing, improving drainage, maintaining machinery or planning the next phase of woodland management.
The estate includes extensive woodland, open parkland, riverside areas and formal grounds, all of which require different approaches throughout the seasons. You'll be responsible for ensuring these areas remain safe, attractive and continually improving.
Alongside the practical work, you'll identify opportunities to enhance the estate, whether that's opening a new view towards the river, creating a quiet woodland seating area, restoring neglected corners or introducing new planting to improve biodiversity and visual appeal.
You'll also look after the estate's machinery and equipment, ensuring everything is maintained, organised and ready for use, while coordinating specialist contractors when larger or more technical works are required.
As weddings begin, you'll play an important role in ensuring the grounds always look their very best. From ceremony spaces and woodland walks to arrival routes and photography locations, the landscape will form a key part of every couple's experience.
About You
We're looking for someone who enjoys creating as much as maintaining.
You'll probably have experience working on a private estate, within forestry, parks, countryside management or a similar environment where every day brings a different challenge.
You won't be someone who waits to be told what needs doing. Instead, you'll naturally notice opportunities to improve the estate and take pride in seeing those improvements come to life.
You'll be practical, organised and comfortable working independently, while equally happy working alongside colleagues and contractors when larger projects require a team effort.
Most importantly, you'll care about the quality of your work and enjoy seeing the estate evolve through your efforts.
Experience & Skills
We're more interested in practical experience, attitude and common sense than a long list of qualifications.
Experience working within woodland, estates, forestry or countryside management would be ideal, together with confidence using chainsaws, brush cutters, tractors and general estate machinery.
A good understanding of tree safety, woodland management, fencing, landscaping and estate maintenance would be highly beneficial.
Relevant forestry or chainsaw qualifications would certainly be welcomed, along with experience operating compact plant or agricultural machinery, although we're equally happy to support further training where appropriate.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
