Job Title: Accountant
Location: Birmingham, B12
Salary:£35,000 pro rata (competitive, dependent on experience and qualifications)
Type: Part-Time, On-Site 2 days per week, with flexibility around start times.
Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Senior Accounting Professional/ Accountant to work with one of our construction clients in Birmingham on a self-employed basis.
Responsibilities
- Purchase & sales ledger management
- Processing subcontractor invoices and ensuring accurate recording of transactions
- Posting and allocating daily bank transactions and completing bank reconciliations
- Preparing and submitting monthly CIS returns to HMRC
- Managing payroll, VAT returns, and credit control processes
- Preparing management accounts and profit & loss reports
- Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with financial procedures
- Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to resolve finance queries
- Providing accounting support to the business and working closely with internal stakeholders.
Requirements
- Must be able to work on a self-employed basis.
- Experience working in a similar accounting role within a construction environment (highly desirable)
- Knowledge of UK VAT regulations
- AAT qualified
- Demonstrable experience managing CIS processes
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles
- Experience in preparing management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, journals, and forecasting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team
