From 1 August 2026, the University of Greenwich and the University of Kent form London and South-East (LASE) University Group, a pioneering multi-university group that brings together the strengths of both institutions. As an employee of LASE, you will be closely connected to and work within one of our academic divisions, contributing to its distinct strengths, community and identity. Together, we are creating greater scale, resilience and shared ambition to deliver outstanding education, impactful research, and meaningful regional and global impact.
The Faculty of Engineering & Science is one of four faculties at the University of Greenwich, split across two campuses – the Medway Campus in Chatham Maritime, Kent, and the Greenwich Campus in Greenwich, London. Dedicated to inspirational learning, combining teaching with work placements and impactful research and is a complete hub for all STEM subjects within the University.
We are seeking a proactive, methodical and safety-conscious Technician (Scientific Goods In) to act as the central coordinating point for the procurement, receipt, safe storage, tracking and internal movement of scientific and hazardous materials across the Faculty of Engineering and Science, from delivery at Goods In and onwards across the Medway Campus.
A core focus of the role is operating and maintaining the Faculty’s chemical inventory platform (LabCup) and the associated pre-purchase validation process, ensuring that hazardous chemicals are procured only by suitably trained staff, with appropriate COSHH risk assessments, storage capacity and disposal arrangements in place, and with due regard to existing stock, waste reduction and value for money. Working closely with the HazMat Technician, Health and Safety Services and Procurement, the post holder provides proportionate, consistent control and oversight of hazardous chemical procurement across the Faculty. The role also contributes to the running of Science Stores, supports Finance processes relating to Goods In, and assists with the day-to-day running of general Goods In functions, operating with a high degree of autonomy within established procedures.
The successful candidate will have experience of laboratory work (chemical and/or biological) together with a strong awareness of laboratory health and safety, including COSHH and the safe handling, storage and disposal of hazardous chemicals. They will bring excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, high attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping, and the ability to work flexibly and without direct supervision
