Depot Administrator / Warehouse Operative & Member Services Assistant
Ashford
Full Time | Permanent
£27,830 per annum
A role with real variety – no two days the same
At British Wool, we’re looking for someone who enjoys a mix of hands-on warehouse work, office-based administration, and building relationships with our members.
This isn’t a standard admin or warehouse role — it’s a unique opportunity to be part of a business that supports the British farming industry, combining operational work with regular member contact.
If you like staying busy, being part of a team, and not being stuck behind a desk all day, this could be a great fit.
What you’ll be doing
This is a genuinely varied role where you'll split your time across three key areas:
Depot & Administration
- Supporting the day-to-day running of our Ashford Depot
- Processing and maintaining accurate records on our systems
- Handling calls and queries from producers and suppliers
- Supporting stock control and reporting
Warehouse Operations
- Assisting with the movement and handling of wool
- Supporting loading, unloading and stock movement
- Carrying out weighing checks and supporting grading operations
- Keeping the depot safe, clean, and organised
Member Services
- Acting as a key point of contact for our members
- Making and receiving regular calls to support members and resolve queries
- Providing clear, helpful guidance on services and processes
- Visiting Collection Centres (CCs), larger members and auction marts during quieter operational periods
- Building strong, positive relationships with our members
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who:
- Enjoys variety and can move between office, warehouse, and member-facing work
- Is organised, accurate and detail-focused
- Is confident speaking to people both on the phone and face-to-face
- Can work independently as well as part of a team
- Has a strong work ethic and takes pride in doing a good job
Essential requirements:
- Full UK driving licence
- Counterbalance Forklift Truck Licence
- Previous administration experience
- Good IT skills (Microsoft Word and Excel)
Working Hours
Your normal hours are:
39 hours per week
- Monday to Thursday: 8:00am – 4:30pm
- Friday: 8:00am – 3:30pm
In addition, two shift patterns operate for approximately 13 weeks of the year each:
Shift 1 (44 hours):
- Monday to Thursday: 7:00am – 4:30pm
- Friday: 7:00am – 3:30pm
Shift 2 (34 hours):
- Monday to Thursday: 8:00am – 3:30pm
- Friday: 8:00am – 2:30pm
A 30-minute unpaid lunch break applies to all shifts.
What you’ll get in return
- 23 days annual leave + 8 bank holidays
- Rising to 28 days after 2 years’ service
- Option to buy up to 5 additional days
- Workplace pension
- 3% employee / up to 6% employer contribution
- Pension salary exchange scheme
- Life assurance (4x salary)
- Health Assured Employee Assistance Programme
