Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in the leadership and day-to-day management of our Ofsted-registered Children's Home. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the home delivers outstanding, child-centred care while maintaining full compliance with Ofsted regulations, Children's Homes Regulations, and Quality Standards.
Working closely with the Registered Manager, you will lead, motivate, and develop the staff team, oversee safeguarding and care planning, and help create a safe, nurturing environment where children and young people can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Registered Manager in the overall leadership, management, and operation of the Children's Home.
- Lead and supervise the staff team, ensuring high standards of care and professional practice are consistently maintained.
- Act as the designated person in charge of the home in the Registered Manager's absence.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and regular review of individual care plans, risk assessments, and placement plans.
- Promote positive outcomes for children and young people by supporting their education, health, emotional well-being, independence, and personal development.
- Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are implemented effectively and that all concerns are managed appropriately.
- Monitor the quality of care through audits, observations, supervision, and quality assurance processes.
- Support the recruitment, induction, supervision, performance management, and ongoing development of staff.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of all records, reports, and statutory documentation.
- Build effective relationships with children, families, social workers, education providers, healthcare professionals, and other partner agencies.
- Support the home in achieving and maintaining full compliance with Ofsted regulations, Children's Homes Regulations, and Quality Standards.
- Participate in the on-call rota and provide operational support outside normal working hours where required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Level 3 or Level 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or an equivalent recognised qualification) is essential.
- Must be willing to work towards and achieve the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare.
- Previous experience working within an Ofsted-registered Children's Home is essential.
- Experience in a senior residential or supervisory role, with responsibility for leading shifts and supporting staff.
- Sound knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, Children's Homes Regulations, and Quality Standards.
- Experience in care planning, risk assessment, behaviour management, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong leadership, organisational, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, colleagues, and external professionals.
- Competent in maintaining accurate records and using electronic care management systems.
- A full UK driving licence is desirable.
