About the Role
We are looking for an organised and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant / Credit Controller (Export Accounts) to join our Finance Department on a part-time basis.
Working closely with the Finance Director (FD) you will support the day-to-day management of export customer accounts, credit control and sales ledger activities. The role will play an important part in helping the business manage financial, credit and fraud risks while supporting positive customer and sales relationships.
The successful candidate will be confident dealing with customers, have good attention to detail and be comfortable working with financial information and credit control processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Finance Director in managing and mitigating financial, fraud and credit risks associated with credit sales, while supporting the company's sales ethos and facilitating good sales wherever possible.
- Carry out day-to-day credit control activities, including:
- Processing new customer account applications.
- Verifying KYC (Know Your Customer) information to help prevent fraud.
- Checking the creditworthiness of prospective customers.
- Obtaining and reviewing credit insurance limits.
- Processing requests for changes to customer payment terms and credit limits.
- Monitoring outstanding debt and carrying out debt collection activities.
- Ensuring customers have signed the relevant Terms & Conditions and, where applicable, rebate and consignment stock agreements.
- Process customer credit notes received through the Returns system.
- Complete day-to-day Sales Ledger activities, including:
- Processing Sales Ledger receipts.
- Allocating customer payments.
- Completing daily and monthly ledger reconciliations.
- Assisting with monthly control account reconciliations.
- Deal with day-to-day customer queries professionally and efficiently, resolving issues where possible or escalating when required.
- Provide cover and support for the UK Credit Controller / Accounts Assistant when required.
- Assist with audit-related queries and provide information as required.
- Undertake other Finance Department duties as allocated by the Finance Manager or Finance Director.
- Provide support to other departments and assist with wider company activities when required.
Skills
- Previous customer-facing experience; finance experience desirable. Credit control experience is not essential.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills with a professional and friendly telephone manner.
- Able to work independently, meet deadlines and solve problems.
- Good IT, Maths and English skills, including intermediate Excel.
- Team player with strong attention to detail.
Knowledge
- Develop a good understanding of the company's credit insurance policy and credit control processes.
- Good working knowledge of Sage 200 and internal company systems.
- Competent in Excel, including VLOOKUPs and PivotTables.
- Able to extract and analyse data using database queries and Excel.
- Understand company systems, processes and controls, including those relevant to ISO requirements.

Working Hours
The role is approximately 25 hours per week, with working days and hours to be agreed with the successful candidate.
There is flexibility around taking a break during the working day, depending on the agreed working pattern and the individual's preference.
