What you'll be doing
We are looking for an exceptional Supervisor to join our brand new Southern Hub, based at Delice de France in Southall. You will be second in command to the Depot Manager and will manage the depot in their absence. You will own the day-to-day execution of the operation, ensuring the plan is delivered effectively and any issues are resolved in real time.
You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with the team during the busiest parts of the day - receiving the overnight trunk, coordinating loading, dispatching drivers, managing on-road issues and debriefing drivers on their return. You will also act as flexible driving cover when operational demand requires it, so the ability to switch between supervising and driving a route is essential.
It is essential that you have supervisory experience in a fast-paced operational environment (logistics, warehousing, food distribution or similar), a full UK driving licence with multi-drop experience, and confidence handling people, problems and priorities all at once.
This is a full-time, salaried role based at: Freshview Foods Ltd, Southern Hub, c/o Delice de France, Southall. Working pattern is 5 days per week and will include early starts, weekends and Bank Holidays as the operation requires.
DBS check required.
Retention bonus of £500 on completion of 3 months service.
Start and finish times will vary depending on shift (early shift from 3.00am to cover trunk receipt and dispatch; late shift covering on-road management, driver returns and close-out) - flexibility is required.
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Your responsibilities
· Own the day-to-day execution of the operation, ensuring drivers are loaded, dispatched and debriefed in line with our standards.
· Deputise for the Depot Manager during periods of absence, holding the depot together and escalating only where necessary.
· Coordinate vehicle loading in line with the Southern Trunking loading sequence (bulk, crated, dairy, frozen) to preserve cold chain integrity.
· Direct the receipt and dissection of the overnight trunk, ensuring runs 1 and 2 are ready for loading by 4.00am and the remaining runs by 5.30am.
· Check picks and consolidation - all bulk, chilled, dry, dairy, frozen and nuts picks must be signed off before dispatch.
· Manage driver performance day-to-day, training and coaching drivers on drops and procedure, and reinforcing safety standards.
· Conduct driver debriefs on return, capturing run data, crate returns, customer feedback and any quality or on-road issues.
· Manage on-road issues in real time - guiding drivers on access issues, customer queries or routing problems, and escalating to Stoke Transport only when local resolution fails.
· Resolve missing or short product issues found during unload alongside the Depot Manager, working with Customer Services in Stoke on customer communication and credits.
· Oversee crate control - making sure crates are sorted, cleaned and recorded correctly, and that any shortfalls are flagged.
· Oversee van cleanliness and ensure daily safety and maintenance checks are completed by drivers before departure.
· Provide flexible driving cover when needed, stepping into a route during peak days, absence or unplanned demand.
· Reinforce food safety, manual handling and vehicle safety standards across the team at all times.
· Support the Depot Manager with recruitment activity, training new starters and embedding standards.
· Represent Freshview Foods professionally with customers, Delice de France site contacts and the Stoke team.
