About the role
Balfour Beatty is looking to recruit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS) to support the Scottish Power Framework across the Central Belt of Scotland, working on a variety of projects within the region.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual looking to develop their commercial career within a leading infrastructure business. Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors and Senior Commercial professionals, you will gain exposure to all aspects of commercial management, supporting the successful delivery of major power and utility projects.
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will help manage project costs, support procurement activities, assist in the administration of subcontractors, and contribute to the commercial performance of projects while developing the skills and experience required to progress towards Quantity Surveyor level.
What you'll be doing
- Supporting the commercial team in delivering project objectives and maintaining commercial controls.
- Adhering to the Company's governance requirements, including BMS and GMCE procedures.
- Using company ERP and digital systems to manage commercial information.
- Assisting with the measurement, valuation and recording of works in accordance with company procedures.
- Supporting the preparation of Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
- Assisting with the measurement and interpretation of drawings, specifications and works information.
- Helping prepare Bills of Quantities, schedules of rates and estimates.
- Assisting with procurement activities and subcontractor enquiries.
- Supporting the management and administration of subcontractor accounts.
- Collating and maintaining cost and value information.
- Assisting with forecasting and reporting processes.
- Building effective relationships with customers, suppliers and project stakeholders.
- Contributing to the identification of commercial risks and opportunities.
- Supporting the preparation, submission and agreement of applications and final accounts.
- Maintaining accurate records and project documentation.
Who we're looking for
- Degree qualified, or working towards a degree, in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, Business, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience within construction, infrastructure, utilities or engineering environments (including placements or graduate experience).
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Good commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Eagerness to learn and develop a career within Quantity Surveying.
Desirable
- Understanding of NEC contracts.
- Experience working within power, utilities, civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Working towards a professional qualification with RICS, ICES or CIOB.
- Experience using commercial or ERP systems.
