PROJECT ENGINEER
Location: Derby (Flexibility on working arrangements to be discussed)
Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
The Opportunity
Are you a Project Engineer who wants end-to-end ownership of genuinely exciting programmes — from multinational OEM commercial projects to deep-tech funded innovation? We’re recruiting on behalf of a pioneering and fast-growing specialist in thermoplastic composites based in Derby, and we’re looking for a highly motivated Project Engineer to join their expanding team.
This is a genuinely cross-functional role. You’ll be operating across account management, procurement, engineering, production, quality and budget management — influencing and coordinating across the business to deliver results. You’ll need to learn fast, think commercially and thrive in an environment where the technology is genuinely new and constantly evolving.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Taking full end-to-end ownership of a varied portfolio of projects from initial brief through to delivery and closeout
- Interfacing directly with key customers, acting as the primary commercial and technical point of contact
- Sourcing tooling, equipment and materials for projects — managing procurement and supplier relationships
- Developing tooling and equipment specifications and supporting manufacturing process development
- Working closely with the production team to ensure project outputs are delivered on time, to quality and to budget
- Managing risk, safety considerations and project documentation throughout the project lifecycle
- Rapidly assimilating new knowledge in emerging fields — materials science, advanced manufacturing and sustainable composites
- Representing the business professionally at customer meetings, industry events and conferences
What We’re Looking For
- Degree-level education in a relevant engineering discipline — Masters level preferred
- Demonstrable project management success — you’ve delivered complex, multi-stakeholder projects
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills — able to influence and coordinate without direct authority
- Commercial awareness and confidence in customer-facing situations
- A fast learner with genuine intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for new technologies
- Highly organised with strong documentation and communication skills
- Composites experience is NOT essential — the right engineering mindset and attitude matter more
What’s On Offer
- £40,000 – £45,000 per annum depending on experience
- End-to-end project ownership across exciting commercial and innovation programmes
- The chance to work at the cutting edge of sustainable advanced manufacturing
- A fast-growing business at a genuinely pivotal moment
- Flexibility on working arrangements to be discussed
