Job Purpose
The Goods In Operator is responsible for receiving, checking, recording, and processing incoming deliveries accurately and efficiently. The role ensures that all goods received into the business are checked against delivery documentation, recorded correctly on company systems, and moved to the appropriate storage, inspection, production, or dispatch areas.
The post holder plays an important role in maintaining stock accuracy, supporting warehouse operations, and ensuring supplier deliveries are processed in line with company procedures and health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and unload incoming deliveries from suppliers, couriers, internal transfers, or company vehicles.
- Check goods against purchase orders, delivery notes, packing lists, or system records.
- Ensure the correct products, quantities, sizes, colours, and specifications have been received.
- Identify and report shortages, over-deliveries, damaged goods, incorrect items, or paperwork discrepancies.
- Record received goods accurately on the company’s warehouse management system, ERP system, or relevant paperwork.
- Label, scan, sort, and prepare goods for storage, production, picking, dispatch, or internal transfer.
- Move goods safely to the correct locations using appropriate manual handling techniques and warehouse equipment.
- Support quality checks and escalate any concerns regarding product condition, packaging, or supplier compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, supplier discrepancies, returns to supplier, and goods received.
- Work closely with purchasing, stock control, warehouse, production, dispatch, and management teams to resolve goods-in queries.
- Ensure goods-in areas are kept clean, organised, safe, and free from hazards.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including safe unloading, manual handling, and correct use of warehouse equipment.
- Support stock checks, replenishment, returns, or general warehouse duties when required.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by management.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Previous experience in goods-in, warehouse, stock control, logistics, retail stockroom, or a similar environment is desirable.
- Good attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to check goods against paperwork and system records.
- Good organisational skills.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- Ability to follow processes and complete records accurately.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
Desirable:
- Experience using warehouse management systems, ERP systems, handheld scanners, or stock systems.
- Previous experience checking purchase orders, delivery notes, or supplier paperwork.
- Manual handling training.
- Forklift, pallet truck, or other warehouse equipment experience, where relevant.
- Experience identifying and reporting supplier delivery discrepancies.
- Basic Microsoft Excel or administrative experience.
