Children’s Residential Support Worker
Contract: Full-time / Permanent
Hours: Shift work, including evenings, weekends and sleep-ins
Start Date: Immediate / As soon as possible
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Children’s Residential Support Worker – Driver to join our residential childcare team.
You will support children and young people living in a residential setting, providing a safe, nurturing and structured environment where they can develop, build confidence and achieve positive outcomes.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience working in children’s residential care, hold a Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in Children & Young People/Residential Childcare, and be a confident driver.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consistent, high-quality care and support to children and young people living in residential care.
- Develop positive, trusting and professional relationships with young people.
- Act as a positive role model and promote emotional wellbeing, independence and personal development.
- Follow individual care plans, risk assessments and behaviour management/support plans.
- Support children with education, appointments, activities and community involvement.
- Safely transport children and young people using the company vehicle where required.
- Support young people with routines, meals, personal development and independent living skills.
- Manage challenging behaviour using agreed therapeutic and positive behaviour approaches.
- Maintain professional boundaries and ensure the safety and welfare of all young people.
- Recognise and report safeguarding concerns in line with company procedures.
- Complete daily records, care notes, incident reports and other required documentation.
- Work closely with colleagues, managers, social workers, schools, families and other professionals.
- Participate in staff meetings, supervision, training and reviews.
- Maintain a safe, clean and welcoming residential environment.
- Work flexibly as part of a rota, including weekends, evenings, bank holidays and sleep-ins.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in children’s residential care.
- Experience supporting children and young people in a residential setting.
- Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in Residential Childcare, Children & Young People, Health & Social Care or a relevant equivalent.
- Full UK driving licence.
- No more than 6 penalty points on your driving licence.
- Good understanding of safeguarding children and young people.
- Experience managing challenging behaviour.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, resilient and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends and sleep-ins.
- Available to start immediately or as soon as possible.
- Must already have the right to work in the UK.
