Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Electronics Engineer to join our R&D team and take full R&D ownership of our rail product line (signals and indicators). This role goes well beyond quality control and factory sign-off, you will drive ongoing product design, component updates, and technical iterations for the rail range while remaining actively connected to manufacturing. Operating predominantly on the factory floor while sitting structurally within R&D, reporting to the Innovation Lead, you will act as the design authority for these products, leading root cause analysis, conducting high-voltage safety testing, and collaborating directly with assembly teams to resolve issues at the source.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take full R&D ownership of the rail signal and indicator product lines, driving continuous engineering improvements, design updates, and product lifecycle management.
- Conduct rigorous electrical, safety, and functional testing on rail product lines prior to final sign-off and dispatch.
- Perform specialised compliance testing, including Earth Impedance testing, Isolation Resistance testing, and high-voltage testing up to 4kV.
- Maintain a strong, daily presence on the factory floor to support production personnel through technical issues and ensure seamless team integration.
- Perform detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on non-conforming units, demonstrating assembly or component faults directly to factory staff for corrective action.
- Carry out precision soldering, component adjustments, and rework post-RCA before subjecting products to re-testing.
- Utilize advanced laboratory test equipment to diagnose complex board- and system-level faults.
- Complete optical testing, measurement, and validation within our dedicated Optical Lab.
- Feed factory test records directly into R&D design updates to prevent recurring issues.
Essential Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on electronics test or engineering experience in a production or product development environment.
- Deep knowledge and operational proficiency with diagnostic test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, HV insulation testers, power supplies, loop/impedance testers).
- Direct experience conducting safety testing, including Earth Impedance, Isolation Resistance, and High Voltage (up to 4kV) flash testing.
- Excellent hand soldering skills for component replacement, board rework, and prototype adjustments.
- Practical fault-finding and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to collaborate closely with factory assembly teams.
Desirable Skills:
- PCB design capability.
- Hands-on experience working in an Optical Lab environment.
- Knowledge of LED technology, including chip selection, sourcing, and binning/bucketing.
- Exposure to FPGA programming or embedded logic.
- Familiarity with rail industry standards, safety-critical testing protocols, or electro-mechanical assembly.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will bring at least 5 years of practical experience in electronics and a strong desire to take complete technical ownership of a dedicated product family. You pair a deep understanding of safety-critical electrical testing (4kV, earth impedance, isolation) and precision hand-soldering with the R&D mindset needed to continuously refine and mature product designs. You are as comfortable leading product design improvements as you are collaborating directly with assembly line staff on the factory floor.
