At myStayInn, we manage a premier portfolio of short-term holiday lets in and around Edinburgh. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional experiences for both our property owners and guests. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced, organised, and hands-on Head Housekeeper to take full ownership of our cleaning, laundry, and amenities operation.
The Role
Are you someone who can combine hands-on cleaning standards with strong people management and operational oversight? As our Head Housekeeper, you will be fully responsible for the performance, profitability, and smooth running of the entire housekeeping, laundry, and amenities function — while also staying close to the work through your own cleaning and inspections.
This is a leadership role requiring someone equally comfortable managing a team as they are cleaning alongside them.
Key Responsibilities1. Team Management
- Hire and vet new cleaning and housekeeping staff.
- Deliver training to new and existing staff to ensure consistent standards across the team.
- Hold regular performance meetings and 1-2-1s with cleaning and housekeeping staff.
- Manage staff rotas, ensuring adequate cover across all properties and shifts.
- Address underperformance or standards issues directly and constructively.
2. Cleaning, Laundry & Amenities Oversight
- Take full responsibility for the standard, efficiency, and profitability of cleaning, laundry, and amenities operations.
- Carry out hands-on cleaning work, incorporating quality inspections as part of your own cleans.
- Conduct regular inspections of cleaning, laundry, and amenities standards across the portfolio.
- Conduct maintenance inspections, flagging and escalating any issues identified.
- Review and manage agreed cleaning timings for each property to ensure they remain accurate, efficient, and achievable.
- Oversee linen and amenities delivery schedules, ensuring stock is delivered efficiently and punctually to properties.
3. Operational & Financial Accountability
- Ensure the housekeeping, laundry, and amenities function operates smoothly and profitably.
- Identify inefficiencies in cleaning timings, staffing, or delivery logistics and implement improvements.
- Monitor costs associated with cleaning, laundry, and amenities, flagging concerns to management where relevant.
4. Administration
- Complete rotas and basic administrative tasks associated with the role.
- Admin and rota work is capped at 1 hour per day to ensure focus remains on hands-on operational management.
5. Availability
- Available 7 days per week for emergencies or urgent issues.
- Standard scheduled tasks and duties carried out across 5 days per week.
What We Are Looking For
- Leadership Experience: Proven ability to manage, train, and hold a team accountable.
- Hands-On Approach: Willing and able to clean, inspect, and lead from the front.
- Organisational Skills: Strong ability to manage rotas, timings, and logistics across multiple properties.
- Commercial Awareness: Understands the link between housekeeping standards, efficiency, and profitability.
- Eye for Detail: Able to identify cleaning, laundry, amenities, and maintenance issues quickly and accurately.
- Driving License: Essential, as travel between properties in Edinburgh and surrounding areas will be required.
