The BMS plays a vital role in maintaining comfortable, safe and energy efficient environments throughout the estate.
We are seeking a Building Management Systems (BMS) Operations Engineer to join the Estates BMS Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the operation, optimisation and continual improvement of the University's Siemens Desigo CC Building Management System.
Working as part of the BMS team, you will play a pivotal role to ensure the University's BMS operates reliably, efficiently and effectively. The role combines fault finding, software modifications, system optimisation, performance monitoring and hands-on engineering activities, providing the opportunity to make a real impact on building performance, energy efficiency and operational resilience across the estate.
This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same. You could be investigating complex control system faults, reviewing trends and alarms to identify opportunities for improvement, modifying software and control strategies, commissioning replacement equipment, supporting maintenance activities or helping improve the operation of critical building systems.
The role is responsible for the day-to-day operational performance of Building Management Systems across the University estate, ensuring faults, maintenance activities and operational issues are identified, prioritised and progressed through to resolution. You will use system data, trends and operational insight to improve performance, reduce reactive maintenance and support the University's sustainability and Net Zero ambitions.
We are looking for someone with extensive practical experience configuring, commissioning, modifying, fault finding and optimising Building Management Systems, together with a strong understanding of HVAC systems, control theory and building services engineering. Experience with Siemens systems would be advantageous, although applicants with experience in other BMS platforms who can quickly develop competence within the University's Siemens environment are encouraged to apply.

Main Purpose of the Role
The post holder is responsible for the operational performance, management and continual improvement of the University’s Siemens Desigo CC Building Management System (BMS) across the University estate, supporting Estates service delivery through the reliable, efficient and resilient operation of building systems.
The role provides dedicated operational engineering capability for existing BMS-controlled buildings, ensuring systems are effectively managed to support building performance, energy efficiency and operational resilience across a diverse range of buildings and environments.
As the estate continues to increase in scale and complexity of integration, the role supports the growing importance of BMS in managing operational performance and building outcomes. This includes maintaining oversight of system performance, operational risks, alarms, faults, planned preventative maintenance findings, contractor activities and reactive maintenance requests, ensuring actions are appropriately prioritised and progressed through to resolution. The role directly supports the University's Net Zero objectives through optimisation of building systems to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.
The role is responsible for developing and maintaining a proactive approach to BMS operational management, including preventative maintenance, system performance monitoring, control strategy optimisation and continuous improvement. This includes the use of system data, trend analysis and operational insight to identify opportunities for improvement, optimise system performance and reduce unplanned reactive work. The post holder will also undertake hands-on BMS engineering activities, appropriate to their competence and qualifications to support reliable system operation and validate operational performance.
Working closely with Estates Engineering teams, contractors, IT Services and other stakeholders, the role supports the effective integration of BMS into wider Estates operations, promoting consistent standards, long-term system resilience and the ongoing development of operational BMS capability across the estate. Working alongside and supporting the BMS Projects Engineer and Technicians, the post holder provides technical leadership, engineering expertise and operational support to ensure the reliable operation and continual improvement of Building Management Systems.
Pay: £38,784.00-£46,049.00 per year
