Deputy Registered Manager, Children's Home - Hatfield, London

We're seeking a dedicated Deputy Registered Manager to join our brand-new, state-of-the-art Children's Home in Hatfield, London. This is a unique opportunity to help shape an outstanding service from the ground up, supporting children and young people with mild to moderate learning disabilities and complex health needs.
The role
As Deputy Manager, you will be second in charge of the home. You will support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the service, lead shifts, deputise in the Manager's absence, and act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will spend time with the children as well as with rotas, records and regulations.
What you will do
- Leadership and operations: Support the Registered Manager in the daily management of the home, ensuring full compliance with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards and Ofsted's Social Care Common Inspection Framework (SCCIF).
- Team development: Supervise, mentor and performance manage staff, ensuring induction, training and development needs are met and that the team is skilled, compassionate and consistent.
- Safeguarding: Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead, promoting a culture of contextual safeguarding and managing missing-from-care and other protective protocols.
- Child-centred care: Ensure every child has a current, individualised care plan that is regularly reviewed, and that children are actively involved in decisions about their daily lives.
- Quality assurance: Monitor standards across the home, contribute to Regulation 45 quality of care reviews and support the home through Regulation 44 visits and Ofsted inspections.
- Partnership working: Work closely with commissioners, social workers, health and education professionals to deliver a genuine team-around-the-child approach.
- A nurturing environment: Help create a safe, homely and welcoming atmosphere in which children build positive routines and are supported through complex behaviour with patience and skill.
- On-call: Take part in the on-call rota, providing out-of-hours advice and support to the team.
What you will bring
Essential:
- At least two years' experience working in a children's residential setting, including at least one year in a senior, supervisory or team leader role.
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or a firm commitment to complete it with our full funding and support.
- A confident working knowledge of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards and Ofsted inspection expectations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise and develop staff.
- Excellent communication, organisational and record-keeping skills, with sound written English and numeracy.
- Resilience, warmth and a genuine commitment to the welfare, independence and inclusion of children with learning disabilities and complex health needs.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends and to join the on-call rota.
Desirable:
- Experience supporting children with learning disabilities or complex health needs.
- Experience of opening or registering a new home.
- Full UK manual driving licence.
