Kitchen Porter & Bar Back
The Larder, Whitstable
About the role
We are looking for a reliable, energetic and personable Kitchen Porter & Bar Back to join our team at The Larder.
This is a varied role supporting both our busy daytime coffee shop and Larder After Dark, our evening cocktail bar. Depending on the shift, you may be helping the daytime team keep the kitchen and service areas running smoothly or supporting our bartenders during a busy evening service.
This is an important part of the team. You will help ensure that the whole operation remains clean, organised, well stocked and ready for service. Although the role is primarily behind the scenes, everyone at The Larder contributes to the atmosphere we create, so you should be friendly, approachable and happy to engage with customers when needed.
Key responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Washing glasses, crockery, cutlery, utensils and equipment quickly and thoroughly.
- Keeping the kitchen, bar, wash-up and storage areas clean, tidy and organised.
- Supporting the bar team by collecting, washing and returning glassware throughout service.
- Restocking fridges, shelves, bar stations and service areas.
- Receiving deliveries and moving stock safely to the appropriate storage areas.
- Helping with stock rotation and ensuring products are stored correctly.
- Assisting with basic preparation and mise en place, including preparing fruit, garnishes and other ingredients for the bar.
- Replenishing ice, glassware, napkins, straws and other bar supplies during service.
- Clearing tables and helping to keep customer areas clean and welcoming.
- Emptying bins, separating recycling and crushing down cardboard and other waste.
- Cleaning equipment, surfaces and floors in line with our hygiene procedures.
- Supporting opening and closing duties.
- Helping the wider team wherever needed during busy periods.
- Following all food hygiene, health and safety and manual-handling requirements.
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Is reliable, punctual and ready to work.
- Takes pride in keeping things exceptionally clean and organised.
- Can work quickly and calmly during busy services.
- Notices what needs doing and is willing to get stuck in without always being asked.
- Is friendly, personable and comfortable working around customers.
- Works well as part of a close-knit team.
- Has a positive attitude and is happy to support colleagues.
- Can follow instructions while also using their own initiative.
- Is comfortable with the physical nature of the role, including standing for long periods and safely lifting and moving stock.
- Is available for a mixture of daytime, evening and weekend shifts.
Previous hospitality experience would be helpful but is not essential. We are more interested in finding someone with the right attitude, energy and willingness to learn.
