Yard Manager – Scaffolding Company

Salary: £35,000 – £41,000 per year depending on experience
We are looking for an experienced Yard Manager to join our established scaffolding company in Redditch, taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of our scaffolding yard, materials and transport operations.
This is a hands-on role and would suit someone with experience in scaffolding, construction or a similar industry who is organised, confident managing a team and happy to get involved when needed.
The Role
You will be responsible for making sure the right scaffolding materials are available and ready for our sites, the yard is organised and running efficiently, and our drivers and vehicles are managed correctly.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Managing scaffolding stock and ensuring sufficient materials are available for upcoming works.
- Picking and checking orders before materials are dispatched to site.
- Liaising with supervisors and site teams regarding material requirements, collections and deliveries.
- Checking incoming deliveries against purchase orders and passing the relevant paperwork to the finance team.
- Managing the day-to-day running of the scaffolding yard and ensuring materials are stored safely and correctly.
- Maintaining good housekeeping standards across the yard, canteen and toilet facilities.
- Managing and allocating daily duties to yard operatives and drivers.
- Monitoring the performance of the yard team and making sure work is completed efficiently.
- Providing hands-on support with loading and unloading when required and covering staff absences where necessary.
- Ensuring forklifts and other lifting equipment are operated safely.
- Ensuring drivers complete their daily HGV walkaround checks and that any defects are reported and dealt with correctly.
- Coordinating HGV maintenance, including PMIs and MOTs, and ensuring vehicles remain compliant with DVSA requirements.
- Looking for ways to improve yard organisation, material handling and general efficiency.
- Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed throughout the yard and transport operation.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in a materials, logistics or yard management role, ideally within scaffolding, construction or a similar industry.
- Good working knowledge of scaffolding materials. (nice to have)
- Previous experience managing a team.
- Forklift licence preferred, or willingness to obtain one.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Confident communicating with drivers, yard staff, supervisors and management.
- Able to manage changing priorities and deal with day-to-day issues as they arise.
- A practical, hands-on approach.
- Good understanding of health and safety within a yard and logistics environment.
