Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Tutor to support students with complex educational, communication, and emotional needs. You will deliver personalised, therapeutic learning that promotes achievement, independence, wellbeing, and preparation for adulthood within a safe and inclusive environment. The main focus of this role will centre around a small group of complex needs students. There will be opportunities to contribute to the wider college curriculum, delivering sessions to enhance our enrichment programme.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated, and multi-sensory learning tailored to individual needs.
Assess, monitor, and record progress, adapting learning to support students with complex needs, behavioural challenges, and communication difficulties.
Create person-centred learning environments that build confidence, independence, and engagement.
Promote students' personal, social, emotional, physical, and academic development through a Preparation for Adulthood curriculum.
Build positive relationships with students, families, carers, therapists, and external professionals.
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide therapeutic support.
Use a range of communication approaches, including AAC, Makaton, PECS, and Intensive Interaction.
Promote positive behaviour, celebrate achievement, and maintain high expectations.
Uphold safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection requirements.
Person Specification
Essential
Experience teaching or tutoring learners with SEND and/or complex needs.
Ability to adapt learning for diverse educational, behavioural, and communication needs.
Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
Experience assessing and tracking student progress.
Strong communication, teamwork, and relationship-building skills.
Desirable
Teaching qualification (PGCE, CertEd, DET, or equivalent).
Experience in specialist, alternative, or therapeutic education.
Knowledge of AAC, Makaton, PECS, and Intensive Interaction.
First Aid or behaviour support training.
