Optical Manager – Eye Hut Opticians Job Overview
Eye Hut Opticians is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Optical Manager to lead the daily operations of our practice. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering outstanding customer service, managing the optical team, driving sales performance and ensuring the practice operates efficiently while maintaining the highest clinical and professional standards.
This is a hands-on leadership role that combines operational management, team development, business growth and community engagement. The Optical Manager will also play a key role in canvassing and promoting the practice to attract new customers and increase local awareness of Eye Hut Opticians.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the optical practice, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
- Lead, motivate and develop a team of Optometrists, Optical Assistants and Reception staff.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and ensure every patient receives a positive experience.
- Manage appointment scheduling, clinic workflow and shop floor operations.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), sales targets and business performance.
- Ensure compliance with General Optical Council (GOC) standards, NHS regulations and company policies.
- Handle customer queries and resolve complaints professionally and effectively.
- Manage stock levels, frame displays, ordering and supplier relationships.
- Recruit, train, coach and conduct performance reviews for team members.
- Support business planning, budgeting and sales forecasting.
Business Development & Canvassing
- Organise and participate in local canvassing activities to promote Eye Hut Opticians.
- Build relationships with local businesses, schools, care homes, GP surgeries and community groups.
- Plan and support marketing campaigns, promotional events and community outreach initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to increase footfall, attract new patients and retain existing customers.
- Represent Eye Hut Opticians professionally within the local community to strengthen the practice's reputation.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience managing an optical practice or retail healthcare environment.
- Strong leadership, coaching and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Commercial awareness with a proven ability to drive sales and achieve targets.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of optical products, dispensing and clinical processes.
- Confident networking and canvassing to generate new business opportunities.
- Problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to customer satisfaction.
