Experienced Civils & Groundworks Operative Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Civils & Groundworks Operative to join our team, carrying out project, installation and repair works at sites across the UK.
This is a hands-on, varied role for someone with strong experience across civils, groundworks, tarmac, concrete, excavation and general site repair works.
Our projects are carried out nationwide, so applicants must be comfortable working away from home regularly, including overnight stays when required.
We are looking for someone experienced and dependable who can arrive on site, understand the work required and get the job completed safely and to a high standard without needing constant supervision.
Key Responsibilities
The role will include:
- General civils and groundworks
- Excavation, trenching and ground preparation
- Operating excavators, dumpers and other site machinery
- Tarmac laying, patching and reinstatement works
- Concrete works, including bases, slabs, foundations and repairs
- Breaking out and reinstating existing concrete and hardstanding
- Drainage and ducting installation
- Installation and repair of manholes, chambers and drainage systems
- Kerbing, edging and paving
- Ground preparation, backfilling and compaction
- Site repair and maintenance works
- Making good and reinstating areas following installation works
- General construction and infrastructure project works
- Using hand tools, power tools and site equipment
- Reading and working from drawings, specifications and site instructions
- Working alongside engineers, subcontractors and other trades
- Ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
- Following RAMS and all site and company health & safety procedures
What We're Looking For
This position requires an experienced operative with a strong background in civils and groundworks.
Applicants should:
- Have proven experience in civils and groundworks
- Be experienced in tarmac and concrete works
- Be competent carrying out excavations, reinstatement and general site repairs
- Have experience operating construction plant and machinery
- Be confident working independently and using their own initiative
- Be able to complete works to a good standard without constant supervision
- Be comfortable working as part of a small project team
- Be practical, reliable and able to problem-solve on site
- Be willing and able to work away from home throughout the UK
- Be flexible regarding working hours where projects require it
- Hold a full, clean UK driving licence
- Be comfortable driving company vehicles and travelling significant distances between projects
Qualifications & Tickets
A valid CSCS card is required.
Plant qualifications such as CPCS or NPORS for excavators, dumpers and other machinery are highly desirable.
Additional relevant groundworks, highways, plant or construction qualifications would also be advantageous.
The Person
We're not looking for someone who has only worked as a general labourer. We need an experienced, multi-skilled civils and groundworks operative who is confident carrying out project work from start through to completion.
You will need to be someone who takes pride in their work, turns up when expected, looks after company equipment and vehicles, and can be trusted to represent the company professionally while working at customer sites across the UK.
This role will particularly suit someone who enjoys varied work and is happy travelling rather than working on the same construction site every day.
Nationwide travel and regular working away are an essential part of this position.
Pay: From £32,000.00 per year
