About the role
The Plant & HGV Hire Desk Manager is responsible for leading and developing the hire desk function across Nexus Rental's plant, welfare, powered access and HGV rental operations. The role is accountable for delivering exceptional customer service, driving revenue growth, ensuring operational efficiency, and managing a high-performing hire desk team. The successful candidate will support the delivery of departmental KPIs, targets and fulfilment of customer hire requests, whilst ensuring compliance with company procedures and industry regulations.
What you'll do
- Lead and motivate the Plant & HGV Team to achieve agreed targets contributing to the overall Nexus objectives.
- Provide clear and concise direction, support and guidance to the team through effective coaching, leadership and setting of SMART objectives.
- Manage performance through regular, effective reviews, addressing performance issues in line with Nexus performance management policies detailed within our handbook and escalating to disciplinary sanctions where appropriate.
- Conduct development reviews and recommend training and development plans.
- Manage people absence in line with Nexus procedures, ensuring the welfare of our people.
- Maintain awareness of relevant legislation including DVSA, FORS, Operator Licence requirements, LOLER and PUWER regulations.
- Highlight processes and procedure improvements to enhance the customer and supplier experience or improve operational efficiency, utilising NPS and customer feedback tools.
- Support the overall delivery of Plant & HGV revenue, gross profit and margin targets whilst monitoring enquiry conversion to fulfilment
- Authorise quotations and negotiated rates within delegated authority limits.
- Support the sales team with major tenders, framework agreements and key account opportunities.
- Build effective working relationships with key stakeholders from other teams, departments and suppliers.
- Acting as the senior escalation point for high-risk or high-impact customer issues.

Experience
- A proven track record in leading and developing a high-performing team, in a Plant & Equipment environment.
- Experience within plant hire, welfare, equipment and powered access is essential
- Experience within HGV rental advantageous
- Experience working in a customer-focused environment, ideally working with SLAs.
Pay: £40,000.00-£42,500.00 per year
