Job Title: Learning Support Assistant
Location: Wimborne
Salary: £14.24 - £16.12 per hour
Start date: September 2026
Contract type: Full Time (Monday to Friday, 8:30 - 3:30)
Are you passionate about education and dedicated to supporting students in their learning journey? Advantage Education is currently seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join a brand-new specialist school in Wimborne. It is desirable for staff to be able to drive, as there may be occasions where cover is needed across different sites.
The start date for this position is September. However, the new Wimborne campus will not officially open until October. Initial training and induction will therefore take place at the existing campuses in Lytchett Minster and Blandford.
About the School:
This is a supportive behaviour-focused educational setting that uses a therapeutic approach to help students understand and improve their behaviour. The goal is to address underlying needs, rather than relying on punishment. It prioritises safeguarding, wellbeing, and emotional development, creating a safe and structured environment where students feel respected, understood, and able to rebuild confidence in learning.
The school works closely with families and external professionals to provide tailored support, including for those with additional needs, and staff are trained in therapeutic thinking and mental health awareness to respond calmly and consistently. The overall aim is to develop positive relationships, resilience, personal growth and responsibility, helping students re-engage with education and prepare for successful futures. Special Educational Needs and Disability strategies are meticulously planned and monitored to ensure optimal outcomes for all pupils, irrespective of SEND status.
The school is well known for its excellent internal progression opportunities, with many staff members moving into Teacher Training or Pastoral pathways after gaining valuable experience as a Learning Support Assistant.
About the Campus:
The new campus will be the ‘primary’ site, supporting students from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 3. The KS3 groups will still be operating on a primary curriculum in the main.
Responsibilities:
- Support teachers in delivering lessons and implementing learning activities.
- Provide individualised support to students with diverse learning needs.
- Assist with classroom management and behaviour management strategies.
- Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to meet the educational needs of students.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people is preferred.
- Driving is desirable so can cover at different sites if needed.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A patient and empathetic approach to supporting students.
- Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
