Key responsibilities
- Supervise teams of fire door installers and carpenters across live sites, allocating work and monitoring progress against programme.
- Ensure all fire door installations, upgrades and remedial works comply with BS 8214, manufacturer instructions, third-party certification scheme requirements (e.g. FIRAS/BM TRADA) and the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 / Building Safety Act 2022.
- Carry out quality inspections and sign-off of completed doorsets, including checking gaps, seals, ironmongery, glazing and signage. This takes place on our Onetrace System.
- Complete and maintain accurate compliance documentation, photographic evidence and installation records using site reporting software/apps.
- Conduct site inductions, toolbox talks and daily briefings; enforce RAMS and health & safety requirements on site.
- Liaise with clients, residents, building managers and main contractors, resolving access issues and managing day-to-day queries professionally.
- Identify defects and non-conformances, document remedial works required, and verify corrective actions.
- Order and manage materials, plant and doorset deliveries; control waste and site housekeeping.
- Support surveying activity where required, including fire door and compartmentation inspections.
- Mentor and develop junior installers and apprentices.
Essential requirements
- Proven experience installing and/or supervising fire door installation works (typically 3+ years).
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Carpentry & Joinery (or equivalent time-served experience).
- Recognised fire door qualification (e.g. FIRAS, BM TRADA Q-Mark, FDIS diploma or Level 3 Award in Fire Door Installation/Inspection).
- SSSTS or SMSTS.
- Valid CSCS card (Gold/Supervisor preferred).
- Strong working knowledge of fire door regulations, compliance standards and passive fire protection principles.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Excellent communication, record-keeping and leadership skills.
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to undergo one) for work in occupied residential/education/healthcare settings.
Desirable
- Asbestos awareness, First Aid at Work, manual handling training.
- Experience working in occupied social housing environments.
- Experience with digital compliance/reporting platforms specifically Onetrace.

Please note: this is a self-employed (CIS) position. Holiday pay, pension and other employed benefits do not apply. You will be responsible for your own tax, National Insurance and insurances (e.g. public liability).
Work is normally in and around the London area, although at times there will be a requirement to travel for nationwide projects.
Pay: £260.00-£285.00 per day
