About Care Horizons
Care Horizons has supported adults across Bristol and South Gloucestershire for over 20 years. We help adults with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs and physical disabilities to live well in their own homes and in our supported living – not in a large residential home. We are a small, senior-led team with no call centre, rated Good by the CQC and certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 45001.
About the role
We are looking for a caring, dependable male Support Worker to join our bank team supporting a young man in Yate who has cerebral palsy, so he can live well and independently in his own home.
Shifts are 24 hours long and include a sleep-in — you will provide waking support through the day and evening, sleep overnight in your own room, and be on hand should he need you. Day to day you will support him with the everyday things that matter: getting out to appointments and activities, cooking and meals, personal care, moving and handling (full training given), medication (we prompt, we do not administer), and above all being good, reliable company.
We will be honest: this work asks a lot – there is personal care, there is real responsibility, and there are hard days. There is also the chance to genuinely change how someone's week, and life, feels.
Who we are looking for
- Kind, calm and reliable – you turn up and he can count on you
- Respectful of his right to make his own choices
- Good boundaries and emotional resilience
- Happy to do sleep-in shifts
- A clear communicator who can write a simple, accurate note
- Comfortable using a smartphone for rotas and notes
- A driving licence and access to a car is preferred
- Happy to have an enhanced DBS check and provide two references
You do not need care experience – if you have the right values, we will train you.
This post is open to male applicants only. Being male is a genuine occupational requirement for this role under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010, owing to the personal care and support needs of the individual being supported.
What we offer
- Tiered pay that rewards experience and qualifications, plus sleep-in allowance
- Paid induction and training, including the Care Certificate
- Regular supervision, mentoring and a supportive team
- A real career ladder – we promote from within
