Job description
Wolston Alliance Chemist is looking for a reliable, motivated and hardworking Apprentice Pharmacy Dispenser / Pharmacy Assistant to join our busy community pharmacy team.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to start a career in pharmacy and work towards a recognised Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant qualification, while receiving practical, hands-on training in a real dispensary environment.
You will be trained to support the pharmacist, ACT and dispensary team with prescriptions, MDS trays, stock control, patient service and the day-to-day running of the pharmacy.
Main duties will include
- Assisting with the dispensing of NHS and private prescriptions under supervision.
- Labelling, assembling and preparing medicines accurately.
- Helping prepare MDS trays / dosette boxes for patients.
- Taking in prescriptions and handing out completed medication.
- Checking patient details and following pharmacy procedures.
- Ordering stock and helping manage pharmacy supplies.
- Receiving deliveries, putting stock away and date-checking medicines.
- Managing owings and helping ensure patients receive medication on time.
- Answering the telephone and dealing with patient queries professionally.
- Supporting the pharmacist and ACT with the daily workflow.
- Keeping the dispensary clean, organised and safe.
- Following pharmacy SOPs, confidentiality rules and NHS standards.
- Carrying out any reasonable duties requested by the pharmacist, manager or senior pharmacy team to improve patient care and pharmacy efficiency.
Training provided
You will be enrolled onto a Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship.
Training will cover:
- Dispensing and supply of medicines.
- Pharmacy law, confidentiality and patient safety.
- Communication with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Stock control and pharmacy procedures.
- Customer service in a healthcare setting.
- Safe and accurate working in a dispensary.
Full support and training will be provided by the pharmacy team.

Previous pharmacy experience is preferred but not essential. The right attitude, reliability and willingness to learn are more important.

- Willingness to complete the Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprenticeship.

Pay
£8.00–£9.00 per hour, depending on experience and suitability.
Pay will be in line with apprentice wage requirements and may be reviewed depending on performance, reliability and progress during training. The official apprentice minimum rate from April 2026 is £8.00 to 9.00 per hour, but be careful: if someone is aged 19 or over and has completed the first year of their apprenticeship, the normal age-related minimum wage applies instead.
