About the role
Due to continued growth, we are recruiting experienced Fire Door Installers/Carpenters to join our team delivering fire door installation, replacement and remediation works across residential, commercial and public-sector projects. This is consistent, long-term work with a specialist passive fire contractor that puts quality and compliance first.
Key responsibilities
- Install new fire doorsets, frames, and flat entrance doors to manufacturer specifications, BS 8214 and third-party certification requirements.
- Carry out fire door remedial and upgrade works, including adjusting gaps, fitting intumescent and smoke seals, replacing ironmongery (closers, hinges, locks, letterplates), glazing and signage.
- Safely remove and dispose of old or damaged fire doors and frames.
- Carry out second-fix carpentry works associated with fire door installations (architraves, stops, thresholds, making good).
- Conduct pre- and post-installation checks to confirm each doorset functions correctly and is fully compliant.
- Record all works with photographs and documentation via a PDA/tablet app, flagging any defects or additional works required on the OneTrace system.
- Work in line with RAMS, site rules and health & safety requirements at all times.
- Communicate courteously with residents, clients and site staff, particularly in occupied buildings.
- Keep work areas clean, tidy and safe.
Essential requirements
- Proven experience installing fire doors, or strong carpentry/joinery background with fire door experience.
- NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry & Joinery (or equivalent time-served experience).
- Valid CSCS card.
- Own tools.
- Good understanding of fire door compliance requirements and attention to detail.
- Full UK driving licence and own transport to travel between sites.
- Reliable, presentable and able to work with minimal supervision.
Desirable
- FIRAS or BM TRADA fire door installation certification (training can be provided for the right candidate).
- Level 2 Award in Fire Door Installation and Maintenance.
- Asbestos awareness and manual handling training.
- Experience in occupied high residential buildings and Office Spaces.

Please note: this is a self-employed (CIS) position. Holiday pay, pension and other employed benefits do not apply. You will be responsible for your own tax, National Insurance and insurances (e.g. public liability).
Work is normally in and around the London area, although at times there will be a requirement to travel for nationwide projects.
Pay: £160.00-£240.00 per day
