Summary
Puma Berry is seeking SC-cleared Safety Engineers for two Defence opportunities, subject to contract award:
- Safety Engineer – Land Systems, based primarily at MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol.
- Senior Safety Engineer – Aviation / Air Traffic Management, with hybrid working and occasional travel to Bristol and Southampton.
Both roles are inside IR35 and require active SC clearance. Please state clearly which role you are applying for.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain safety assessments, safety cases, hazard logs and risk-based assurance evidence.
- Support safety-related change, including impact assessment, verification and validation.
- Work with engineering teams, suppliers and users to identify hazards and implement proportionate controls.
- Produce clear technical documentation and contribute to reviews, audits and assurance activities.
- Ensure work aligns with relevant Defence, aviation and system-safety standards.
Requirements
Essential for both roles
- Current active SC clearance and UK-national eligibility.
- Proven safety engineering or safety assurance experience in Defence, aerospace or another regulated environment.
- Experience of safety cases, hazard identification, risk assessment and assurance evidence.
- Strong written communication and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
Land Systems role
- Experience supporting Defence land systems or similar complex platforms.
- Safety engineering experience at technician/engineering level; STEM qualification at RQF Level 3 or above.
- EngTech or RSciTech status, or working towards it, is desirable.
- Able to work onsite at Abbey Wood approximately 3–4 days per week.
Aviation / ATM role
- Electrical/electronic engineering background.
- Experience with aviation, air traffic management or safety-critical systems.
- Experience of safety change, safety cases, hazard logs and build/assurance processes.
- Knowledge of MAA RA 3134, Form 1430, RiSS/RiSE or Def Stan 00-972 is advantageous.
Contract details
- Fixed-term contract, inside IR35.
- Engagement via PAYE or umbrella company.
- Start: ASAP, subject to contract award.
