Head Chef
The Yard is looking for a passionate and experienced Head Chef to lead our kitchen team and deliver a best-in-class food experience for every customer.
This is an exciting opportunity for a true foodie who takes pride in great-tasting, beautifully presented food, strong kitchen standards, and developing a positive, capable team. You will be responsible for delivering a simple yet delicious menu, maintaining excellent food quality, managing stock and margins, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen.
About the role
As Head Chef, you will lead by example and inspire your team to deliver consistently high standards every day. From the first customer to the last, you will help create an outstanding and memorable experience through excellent food, strong organisation, and attention to detail.
You will oversee hot food production and the bakery department, manage kitchen operations, maintain food safety and hygiene standards, and work closely with the Front of House team to deliver the best possible service.
Key responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Creating and maintaining a simple, delicious menu that meets customer expectations
- Overseeing all hot food and bakery production on site
- Ensuring every plate of food leaving the kitchen is of excellent quality
- Maintaining high standards of food production, presentation, and service
- Keeping up to date with food trends, seasonal dishes, and menu development
- Managing stock ordering, stock rotation, availability, wastage, and cost control
- Maintaining department margins and keeping product costings up to date
- Ensuring all allergen, Natasha’s Law, food safety, health & safety, and hygiene requirements are followed
- Maintaining production, cleaning, regulatory, and daily check records
- Managing kitchen equipment, reporting issues, and ensuring maintenance is completed
- Working closely with Front of House to ensure a smooth customer experience
- Managing rotas, holidays, team reviews, training, and team communication
- Building a positive, supportive, can-do team culture
- Managing supplier relationships
- Planning for seasonal uplifts and supporting recruitment when required
What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about good food and excellent customer experience
- Experienced in leading a kitchen or food production team
- Confident with food safety, hygiene, allergens, and kitchen compliance
- Organised, reliable, and able to manage stock, ordering, rotas, and margins
- A strong communicator who can motivate and develop a team
- Creative, with an interest in menu development and seasonal products
- Positive, polite, helpful, honest, punctual, and professional
- Able to work well with other departments to deliver excellent service
