We are seeking experienced Automotive Thermal Calibration Engineers with strong expertise in HVAC and climate-control calibration. You will be responsible for developing, calibrating, tuning, validating, and optimising vehicle thermal and climate-control systems.
This is a hands-on engineering role involving vehicle, rig, climatic-chamber, and wind-tunnel testing. You will work closely with HVAC, thermal systems, controls, software, validation, and vehicle engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, calibrate, and optimise automotive HVAC and thermal-management strategies.
- Calibrate cabin temperature, blower, compressor, and air-distribution control systems.
- Optimise demist, defrost, heating, cooling, fresh-air, and recirculation functions.
- Calibrate seat heating/cooling and steering-wheel heating systems.
- Conduct HVAC and thermal testing on vehicles, test rigs, climatic chambers, and wind tunnels.
- Perform hot- and cold-ambient, humidity, solar-load, thermal-soak, cool-down, and warm-up testing.
- Evaluate HVAC performance across different drive cycles and operating conditions.
- Analyse vehicle and test data to identify performance gaps and calibration opportunities.
- Correlate results from simulations, rigs, climatic chambers, wind tunnels, and physical vehicles.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and resolve thermal or climate-control issues.
- Work with controls and software engineers to optimise HVAC control algorithms.
- Support prototype and development vehicles throughout testing and calibration activities.
- Develop and maintain calibration datasets, test procedures, technical reports, and validation documentation.
- Participate in test planning, result reviews, verification, validation, and calibration sign-off.
- Support improvements to calibration processes, testing methods, thermal comfort, and HVAC energy efficiency.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of relevant automotive thermal or HVAC calibration experience.
- Strong hands-on experience in vehicle testing, calibration, tuning, and validation.
- Practical knowledge of:
o Cabin temperature regulation
o HVAC control strategies
o Blower and compressor control
o Refrigeration and air-conditioning systems
o Heating and cooling performance
o Air distribution and flap control
o Fresh-air and recirculation control
o Demist and defrost strategies
o Thermal comfort optimisation
o HVAC energy-consumption optimisation
- Experience working on production or prototype vehicle programmes.
- Experience with climatic chambers and/or wind-tunnel testing.
- Strong test-data analysis, signal analysis, parameter tuning, and dataset-management skills.
- Understanding of measurement uncertainty, repeatability, and test correlation.
- Knowledge of automotive HVAC architecture, ECUs, sensors, actuators, and control strategies.
- Understanding of CAN/LIN communication and vehicle electrical/electronic architecture.
- Knowledge of automotive V-cycle development and system-level verification and validation.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root-cause-analysis abilities.
- Ability to interpret technical requirements, specifications, test procedures, and engineering data.
- Ability to work independently in an onsite engineering environment.
- Candidates must have the right to work in the UK for the duration of the contract.

- Road-based vehicle testing.
- A full UK driving licence is highly desirable and may be required for road-testing activities.
Education
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in one of the following disciplines is required:
- Automotive Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Thermal Engineering
- Mechatronics
- Electrical or Electronic Engineering
- Another closely related engineering discipline
Preferred Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Automotive Thermal/HVAC Calibration Engineer who combines strong hands-on vehicle-testing experience with in-depth knowledge of HVAC control strategies, calibration tools, climatic testing, and engineering data analysis.
You should be able to communicate technical findings clearly, prepare professional test reports, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.
