Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Bar Manager to lead the bar operations at Monk Bar. As the driving force behind our bar service, you will oversee daily operations, from service delivery and team management to product selection and financial performance.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a passion for hospitality, and a comprehensive understanding of beverage service. You will manage and develop the bar team, ensure exceptional customer experiences, and maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and operational efficiency. Working closely with the events team, you will ensure all drink offerings are delivered to a consistently high standard while creating a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere for our guests.
This role requires a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and remains calm, thinking quickly and solving problems effectively under pressure. You must be hospitable, approachable, and genuinely passionate about customer service. Flexibility is essential, as the role requires working a variety of shifts and schedules, including weekends and holidays. Balancing creativity with commercial awareness, you will drive profitability while upholding the quality and reputation of Monk Bar.
Duties
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of bar staff, including bartending, serving, and cleaning duties, ensuring smooth and efficient operations at all times.
- Drive sales performance by maximising all revenue opportunities and maintaining exceptional service standards. Host cocktail masterclasses and promotional events to enhance guest experience and increase product awareness.
- Manage stock control, oversee ordering processes, and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure optimal stock levels and cost efficiency, while adhering to licensing, health, and safety regulations.
- Develop and implement innovative drink menus in collaboration with the owner, aligning seasonal trends with customer preferences to drive engagement and sales.
- Ensure full compliance with health, safety, hygiene, and licensing legislation, maintaining strict cleanliness standards and procedures throughout the bar area.
- Monitor customer service delivery to guarantee a consistently high standard of hospitality, promptly resolving complaints or concerns to maintain guest satisfaction.
- Support recruitment and onboarding of new team members, and conduct training and mentoring, to foster a motivated, knowledgeable, and professional team.
- Uphold high standards of appearance, professionalism, compliance, and safety across the team at all times
Skills
- Proven experience in bar management or supervisory roles within a high-volume hospitality environment
- Strong knowledge of beverage service, mixology techniques, and bar operations
- Excellent leadership qualities with demonstrated experience supervising and motivating hospitality teams
- Skilled in team management, staff training, and driving performance to achieve sales and service targets
- Good understanding of licensing laws, health and safety regulations, and compliance standards within a bar setting
- Experience in stock control, ordering, and supplier management
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a confident, professional, and approachable demeanour
- Strong product knowledge across spirits, wines, beers, and cocktails, with the ability to deliver training and host cocktail masterclasses
