Role
The BIM / CAD Technician is responsible for producing, updating and quality-assuring 3D models, 2D
CAD outputs and associated model data across SCS JV assets. The role primarily supports Stage 5
construction and Stage 6 as-built model development using approved design, construction, survey
and field-change information. The role also provides data development and automation support to
improve model quality, validation and information delivery, working under the direction of the BIM
Lead / BIM Coordinator and in accordance with SCS and HS2 BIM and CAD requirements.

The BIM / CAD Technician is responsible for producing, updating and quality-assuring 3D models, 2D

construction and Stage 6 as-built model development using approved design, construction, survey
and field-change information. The role also provides data development and automation support to
improve model quality, validation and information delivery, working under the direction of the BIM
Lead / BIM Coordinator and in accordance with SCS and HS2 BIM and CAD requirements.

Main Responsibilities
The BIM / CAD Technician is responsible for
- Produce and update 3D BIM/CAD models and model-derived 2D technical outputs in
project-approved authoring software, in accordance with the SCS BIM Execution Plan and
HS2 CAD Specification (HS2-HS2-IM-SPE-000-000006).
- Update models from approved inputs including design changes, field changes, NCRs, red-
line information, survey data and as-built records; raise discrepancies and do not introduce
unapproved design changes.
- Apply SCS modelling requirements for project coordinates, levels, naming, classification,
Level of Detail (LoD), Level of Model Information (LoMI), asset identifiers,
properties/metadata and model structure.
- Perform model QA and health checks, basic clash and coordination reviews, and support
federated model production and validation across disciplines and supply chain packages.
- Support native and IFC information exchange, model conversion and validation, checking
that geometry and property information remain complete and consistent following
translation.
- Ensure models and drawings are managed through the Common Data Environment
(ProjectWise / ACC) with the correct naming, revision, status, metadata and traceability.
- Support key BIM deliverables including the Data Acceptance Certificate (DAC), Model
Production Delivery Table (MPDT), model assurance records and graphical/non-graphical
information checks for Stage 5 and Stage 6 handover.
- Work with BIM Coordinators, engineering, design, construction, survey and the supply
chain to resolve modelling and information issues and keep model information aligned with
the approved construction status.
- Support controlled data development and automation using Python, SQL, ETL or similar
tools to improve repetitive model/data checks, extraction, transformation, reporting and
quality assurance.
The Ideal Candidate
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Relevant technical qualification in CAD, BIM, digital engineering, software development or an equivalent level of demonstrable technical experience.
- Practical experience producing accurate 3D CAD/BIM models and 2D technical drawings or model-derived outputs.
- Experience interpreting drawings, mark-ups, technical requirements, survey or construction information and converting these into controlled graphical outputs.
· Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to model and data quality assurance. · Understanding of BIM through the design, construction and handover lifecycle.
· Understanding of model properties, metadata, structured data and information quality checking. · Practical scripting or programming capability using Python, SQL or comparable technologies. · Experience working within a multi-disciplinary project environment and communicating technical issues clearly.
- Commitment to continuing professional development and learning project-specific BIM, CDE and authoring standards. Desirable/Advantageous Qualifications & Skills
- Experience using Bentley and/or Autodesk BIM/CAD tools such as OpenBuildings Designer, MicroStation, Revit, Navisworks or Solibri.
- Familiarity with ProjectWise, ACC, iTwin and Common Data Environment workflows.
- Familiarity with IFC file types and schema, including mapping, conversion and validation between model formats.
- Experience working with large data sets, databases, APIs and ETL or data transformation/validation workflows.
- Understanding of BI requirements including data manipulation, analysis and visualisation, with Microsoft Power BI experience advantageous.
- Experience of parametric modelling, object/component libraries, complex assemblies or model-based technical production.
- Awareness of asset information, classification, model metadata, unique asset identifiers and BIM deliverables such as MPDT and DAC.
- Knowledge and awareness of survey methods, point clouds, red-line information and as-built model development.
- Experience within large, complex infrastructure, construction or rail projects.
- Awareness of PAS/BS1192 and ISO 19650 information management standards; relevant certification is advantageous.
- Experience of Python, SQL, REST APIs, web technologies or similar tools used to develop controlled internal data solutions.
- Awareness of GIS file types, data structures and methods of working.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
