Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Optical Assistant to join our small professional team. The successful candidate will support optometrists in delivering excellent eye care services, assisting with patient examinations, and managing optical products. This part time role offers valuable experience in a dynamic healthcare environment and is ideal for individuals with an interest in excellent customer communications, sales & optometry. The position is suitable for applicants eager to develop their skills within the optical industry. Hours are based over 2 days. The successful applicant must be flexible with their days. Salary potentially negotiable depending on experience.
Responsibilities
- Assisting optometrists after eye examinations and patient consultations
- Preparing and maintaining optical equipment and instruments
- Managing stock levels of frames, lenses, and other optical accessories
- Providing excellent customer service by advising patients on frame selection and lens options
- Conducting measurements such as pupillary distance, multifocal lens measurements and frame fitting
- Frame adjustments and repairs
- Maintaining accurate patient records and appointment schedules
- Ensuring the cleanliness and organisation of the optical practice environment
- Supporting laboratory tasks, including lens ordering and quality checks (lab experience preferred)
- Be 100% compliant with GDPR policies
Skills
- Previous optical experience is desirable, providing familiarity with frames, lenses, prescriptions, optical equipment, processes and guidelines
- Knowledge of human anatomy, particularly related to the eye, enhances understanding of patient needs
- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients and team members
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of care and professionalism
- A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn about new optical technologies and procedures
