Design Engineer
Location: Ossett, West Yorkshire

As Hartwell continues to grow, we are looking to strengthen our Engineering team with the appointment of an experienced Design Engineer.
The role will focus on the design and development of acoustic enclosures and associated fabricated products, taking projects from initial concept through to detailed manufacturing drawings and supporting the product through manufacture and delivery.
This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone with a strong mechanical design background who understands how fabricated products are designed, detailed and ultimately built.
The Role
Key responsibilities will include:
- Designing and developing acoustic enclosures and associated fabricated assemblies.
- Producing detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings and technical documentation.
- Working from customer specifications and project requirements to develop practical engineering solutions.
- Ensuring designs are suitable for manufacture, assembly and installation.
- Working closely with Production, Projects and other engineering disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.
- Supporting prototype development, testing and ongoing design improvements.
- Reviewing and updating drawings where required throughout manufacture.
- Resolving design and manufacturing issues as projects progress.
- Ensuring designs meet required quality standards and customer specifications.
- Supporting projects through manufacture and delivery.
- Contributing to continuous improvement across the design and engineering function.
About You
We are looking for an experienced mechanical Design Engineer with a practical understanding of manufactured and fabricated products.
You will ideally have:
- Around 4 years or more experience within a mechanical design environment.
- Previous experience designing acoustic enclosures or similar fabricated products.
- An HNC, HND, degree or similar qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong 3D CAD capability, ideally using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA or similar software.
- Experience producing detailed manufacturing and fabrication drawings.
- A good understanding of design for manufacture.
- Experience supporting products through prototype, testing and production stages.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to work effectively with production and project teams.
- A practical, commercially aware approach to engineering design.
Experience within acoustic enclosure design would be particularly valuable, given the nature of Hartwell's core products.
