Developing and running the food offering at our Henleaze shop.
Chandos Deli is an independent deli and café group with seven outlets across the South West. We're relaunching and revamping the food offering at our Henleaze shop, and we want someone to own it.
The counter already does well on baguettes, tarts and a simple range of cakes. Now we want to build on that — more made by us, savoury and sweet, changing through the year and worth crossing the road for.
And you'd be cooking out of the biggest larder you could dream of. The whole shop is yours to work with — farmhouse cheeses kept to condition, charcuterie cut to order, oils, vinegars, anchovies, cured fish, olives, spices, chutneys and preserves, chosen over years by people who care a great deal about them. Most cooks have to fight for ingredients like these. Here they're behind you — used with thought and costed properly, they're what will set the counter apart.
It's a varied job rather than a straight kitchen one. You'll spend part of the day cooking and prepping, and the rest out front alongside one colleague (more at the weekend) — and that's the best part of it. You'll hand your food to the person who's about to eat it, talk them into the cheese they've walked past a hundred times, and hear straight away what landed and what didn't. Very few kitchen jobs give you that.
You'll learn a lot here too. We taste regularly, our suppliers are among the best in the country, and there's a wine list alongside the food to match. If you're curious about proper food and wine, there are few better places to get an education in it.
If you only want to be behind a pass, this isn't for you. If you like the idea of feeding people and talking to them about what they're eating, read on.
