St Andrew’s has hospitals in Birmingham and Essex, with its base in Northampton. It delivers inpatient and outpatient services, as well as dedicated care services for adults.
The role and person
The National Probation Service (NPS), Oxfordshire County Councils have partnered with St Andrew’s Healthcare to deliver Mental Health Treatment Requirements as part of a Community Sentence Treatment Requirements initiative.
Within this role you will support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the Criminal Justice System (CJS); providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with the psychologist and within the overall MHTR framework, and St Andrew’s policies and procedures.
The candidate should have an interest in working within forensic settings as well as service development. In addition, the candidate must have an appreciation for how essential collaboration and co-production are to the successful delivery of the service. We are looking for someone who is passionate about continually improving the quality of our patient experience, and who is able to think innovatively about the delivery of psychological provisions. We also anticipate that candidates will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and will be able to evidence the application of these to reduce distress in others.
Applicants should have an honours degree in psychology (minimum of 2:1), and be eligible for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society. A relevant post graduate qualification is desirable but not essential. Applicants should have IT, evaluation and research skills.
Given the role requires significant responsibility and autonomy, applicants must have previous experience of working with people experiencing distress, as an Assistant Psychologist (or equivalent), in community settings, and for at least one year.
“The role will be located across Oxfordshire, but is primarily delivered out of a Probation Office in Oxford and Bicester. Travel outside of Oxford is reimbursed separately and is typically required for training.”
