Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Upholstery Operative. This role is ideal for a skilled, hands-on individual who takes pride in producing high-quality furniture to exceptional standards.
As an Upholstery Operative, you will be responsible for upholstering, assembling, and finishing a range of office seating and furniture products. Working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, you will play a key role in ensuring products are completed accurately, efficiently, and in line with company quality standards.

Main Roles and Responsibilities
Upholstery & Assembly
· Upholster furniture using padding and fabric, secured with staples, tacks, or glue.
· Remove old upholstery and repair frames before reupholstering where required.
· Burn and thread buttons for upholstered items.
· Manufacture soft furnishings including cushions, sofas, and booths.
· Align and assemble parts and components to ensure correct fit, finish, and quality.
· Mount materials and components onto production equipment following assembly.
Material Preparation
· Measure materials and mark reference points, cutting lines, and other indicators.
· Prepare and cut fabrics and materials to required specifications.
· Ensure materials are prepared accurately to minimise waste and support production efficiency.
Production & Workflow Management
· Work efficiently to meet production schedules and operational deadlines.
· Maintain an organised and productive workflow throughout the working day.
· Accurately record operational, quality, and production information as required.
· Support the achievement of departmental productivity targets.
Quality Control & Continuous Improvement
· Examine finished products to ensure quality standards are consistently met.
· Carry out repairs, adjustments, or rework where necessary.
· Identify and report defects, quality concerns, or production inefficiencies.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and operational performance.
Health, Safety & Housekeeping
· Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment at all times.
· Adhere to all company health and safety policies, procedures, and manufacturing guidelines.
· Ensure tools, equipment, and workstations are maintained in a safe and serviceable condition.
· Follow safe manual handling and workplace practices.
General Responsibilities
· Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve departmental and company objectives.
· Maintain high standards of workmanship and attention to detail.
· Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company quality standards and customer requirements.
· Carry out any other reasonable duties as required to support the needs of the business.

Skills and Experience
Essential
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
· Good communication and interpersonal skills.
· Physical dexterity and the ability to undertake hands-on manufacturing tasks.
· Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
· Good organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines.
· Basic IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office applications.
· Ability to work within a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining quality standards.
Desirable
· Previous experience in upholstery, furniture manufacturing, or a similar production environment.
· Experience using upholstery tools, equipment, and machinery.
· Experience operating sewing equipment.
· Understanding of upholstery materials including fabrics, vinyls, foams, and leathers.
· Knowledge of quality control processes within a manufacturing environment.
· Understanding of 5S principles and continuous improvement practices.
· Experience working to production targets and deadlines.

Pay: £12.71-£13.55 per hour
