We are looking for someone to lead our property management department; supporting an established team, helping the department keep growing whilst ensuring a high service level. The team manages properties across North, West & South Yorkshire with a varied portfolio (residential, student & HMOs)
About the opportunity
We manage occupied properties and tenancies on behalf of our letting agents; the day to day work of keeping tenants looked after, landlords informed, and every property compliant.
You'll lead an established team of four to five people who already know their work well. It's a close-knit department, small enough that you'll quickly get to know everyone's strengths and where they want to take their careers. This is a role for someone who enjoys getting the best out of a team, keeping standards high, and looking for the smart improvements that help a good department become an even better one.
You don't need a property background. Although this would be preferred, we can teach you tenancies and legislation. What we're really looking for is someone who's great with people, sets a high bar, and knows how to help a team keep moving forward. Proven experience managing a team, including developing people and supporting performance is essential.
What you'll be doing
- Leading the department – day to day management of a team of four to five, including one to ones, objective setting, supporting performance and balancing workloads
- Developing people - getting to know where each person wants to take their career and helping them get there; coaching in the moment, not just at review time.
- Building on how we work - reviewing how the department runs and introducing improvements that make the team's day to day smoother and more effective. Whilst liaising with the other department managers and company director.
- Championing customer service - keeping the bar high for how tenants and landlords are communicated with, and making sure the team is supported to deliver it consistently. Whilst always looking for ways to improve on service and efficiency.
- Complaint handling - resolving escalated complaints well, then using what they tell us to keep refining how the department works.
- Compliance - making sure every managed property meets its legal and safety obligations, with the right records to prove it.
What we're looking for
Essential
- Proven experience managing a team, including developing people and supporting performance.
- A track record of building on how a team or service works - examples of improvements you've introduced and the difference they made
- Confidence handling complaints and difficult conversations, with customers and internally
- Comfort working to compliance requirements and holding others to them
- Strong organisation and the judgement to prioritise when several things are urgent at once
Desirable
- Experience in lettings, property management, housing or another regulated service environment
- Experience in a customer facing or contact driven operation
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. ARLA Propertymark) - or the appetite to work towards them within the first 6 months of employment, which we'll support
What we offer
- £30,000 - £35,000 basic depending on experience, plus a performance-related bonus
- Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week - no weekend working, other than occasional cover during our peak season around July and September
