Overview
I am seeking a dedicated part time pet carer to join my team. Providing reliable pet sitting services to our valued clients whilst they are away on holiday, for work or a simple day out. Services include drop in visits, walks, day sits and overnight stays within our clients homes.
The ideal candidate will be genuinely passionate about animal care, safety, enrichment and wellbeing. The majority of our furry clients are cats and small animals who require their sitters to understand their body language and have patience. It is important that we take the time to learn about each pet and what makes them happy.
Whilst mostly a part time role, this does require flexibility to cover busier periods. Our busier periods being bank holidays, half terms, summer and winter holidays. References and a clear DBS check will be required.
Responsibilities
- Attend services for cats, rabbits, guinea pigs etc in their home whilst their owner is away.
- Take dogs on walks within the vicinity of their home ensuring their safety at all times
- Monitor all pets during visits/walks, observing behaviour and responding appropriately to their needs.
- Feeding, hydration, cleaning litter trays and picking up after dogs during walks
- Communicate openly and honestly with clients regarding their pets’ wellbeing and any concerns that arise.
- Maintain a clean and organised work environment, including proper handling of equipment and supplies.
- Follow health and safety guidelines to prevent accidents or injuries to pets or yourself
- Follow data protection laws and privacy for clients at all times
- Assist with additional pet care tasks if required, including administering medication (training provided)
Skills
- Previous experience in veterinary services or animal care is advantageous; a genuine passion for animal wellbeing is required
- Animal behaviour knowledge is essential as we work with a lot of anxious and stressed pets - Primarily cats who are often very misunderstood.
- Strong customer service skills to communicate effectively with clients and address their concerns professionally
- Confidence to advocate for animals when needed if we are seeing wellbeing or welfare concerns
- Ability to handle animals of various sizes and temperaments with patience and confidence
- Physical fitness for walking distances and performing light lifting when necessary (e.g. securing leashes or carrying animals)
- Organised with good time management skills to adhere to schedules reliably
- Responsible, trustworthy, and able to work independently in clients homes or in an outdoor environments
