Job Title: Support Worker (Residential)
Responsible to: Registered Manager
Our Aim:
We specialise in working with people who have severe and enduring mental illness. We form effective partnerships with service users, carers and local agencies to provide high quality, integrated services in the community with a strong emphasis on rehabilitation.

Job summary:
To encourage and support residents, in accordance with agreed treatment programmes under the general guidance of senior staff.
- To engage in therapeutic relationships with the residents.
- To encourage and support residents in their rehabilitation and treatment programmes. This is needs led and involves social conditioning, the relearning of old skills and support through therapies, occupation and counselling.
- To maintain a resident focus and to understand the boundaries that must exist in the staff/resident relationship.
- To be familiar with all aspects of the home’s security systems and to contribute to the relational, procedural and physical security of the home.
- To attend and contribute to case conferences.
- To acquire knowledge of the Mental Health Capacity Act and recognise the restrictions that sections of the MCA have on the residents’ choice and freedom.
- To recognise the impact mental illness has on clients, psychologically, physically and socially.
- To acquire a basic understanding of the desired and undesired effects of some of the commonly used medication for mental health problems.
- To support the team by being consistent with the team approach to individual residents.
- To recognise the value of therapeutic services.
- To support team members and to care for one another.
- To contribute to the safety of all clients, relatives, visitors and the team.
- To understand Ashurst Lodge Healthcare Ltd's policies and guidelines on the management of violence and aggression.
- To attend training sessions as and when required and to pursue some form of self development programme pertinent to the home and to yourself.
- To respect all issues of confidentiality especially outside the home and when off duty.
- To be aware of health and safety, fire and other regulations that pertain to the safety of the home and its residents.
- To communicate openly, honestly and without fear of recrimination.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £12.30 per hour
